Strawberry 10/28
#1
Trying my luck at the legendary fall fishing at strawberry, and it did not disappoint.

I'm sure others did better than me, but I pulled in 15 fish, all but 1 were cutthroat and 1 nice rainbow (See Attached). A few of the cutthroat probably were slot busters, but since I wasn't planning to keep them I didn't measure.

I used tubes tipped with just enough night crawler to hide the hook. It seem that the 4" tubes worked the best for me (thanks and a plug to the guys at Angler's Den for getting me setup). Tried multiple colors but finally settled on a pearl with white sparkles. the pearl with black sparkles got nothing which surprised me since they are so close.

Caught most fish 1/4 - 1/2 mile west of Haws Point about 200-300 feet from shore later in the morning 10 - 11 am. Caught the bigger fish near the mouth to the narrows earlier 8 - 10 am. 7 - 8 am was very slow while I was trying to figure out locations and colors.

Made long casts and let the 3/8 oz jig head sink for 5 -7 seconds and slow retrieve with small 12" jerks was the best cadence for me, making sure to always keep the line tight. Most hookups came after the first bite when I would let the jig fall and get the second bite for hook set.

Thanks for the report. That's a good rainbow! I won't be able to make it up there until Saturday. Can't sneak away from work.

When I was up there last week on Thursday, it seemed like the algae was building a bit. Was that still the case for you? Do you know what the surface water temp was?
