Well I had some things to do this morning , so I got to Utah Lake about 11:00am . Not ever fished the outlet area before , I took the long way around on the ice , but finally found Aquaman (Chris) and others fishing by the pump house . Fishing was slow but some fish had been caught . Seen some nice white bass caught and Chris had a nice crappie . I finally hooked a small perch , then a bluegill , then a crappie . I have never caught a bluegill , crappie, or white bass threw the ice , but today I can add a largemouth to that list too . I nail 2 white bass and a 14" largemouth after Chris had gone home . Fun day on the ice . I working on pics , so they are in the works soon .

Which side of the grates were you on? I've always caught the non-white bass species down there on the inside of the grate. The water is a lot deeper there. The week before I left for my mission, my buddy and I fished there and caught five different species! My buddy caught 5 LMB in a row (in under 3 min), including one that was well over 4 pounds. I don't think it can fit back through the grate, so there's a good chance she's still in there. :-) When the perch move into there, they get thick.

Nice report. Congrats on catching so many different species today! That's quite the accomplishment. Were you guys set up with 2 poles each?

Yes , we were on the outside of the grates . I was fishing close to the grates when I hooked the LM bass . Glad I didn't get tangled up in them . Most fish today I set the hook and they come thru the hole , but not mr. bass he gave me a nice fight . And he is still there swimming around . I did eat 2 crappie , bluegill , perch and 2 white bass tonight . Well my son did help me eat them . I think he was real jealous about me hooking them bass and he had to go to school today .

I thought you had to release every largemouth over 12 inches in Utah Lake. That place always produces some monsters in the spring.

You do have to release all bass -- smallmouth or largemouth -- over 12 inches in Utah Lake and many others around the state. In this case, he did mention that he released it don't worry. [ ]
I fished that exact spot from the bank last summer. I came up completely empty handed. My little bro. caught a tiny chanel cat but that was it. I haven't caught any crappie in Utah Lake since the drought started. I think their numbers go down a lot when there's a drought since much of the vegetation and cover they need to survive is left high and dry and they are vulnerable to predation. I caught quite a few very large crappies along the Provo airport dike back when there was actually water along it.
Congrats on the catches. One of the reasons I enjoy fishing Utah Lake so much is that I can go there and catch 4 or 5 or 6 species of fish on the same trip. It's always fun for me to not know what the next fish that comes in will be. Once on one trip I caught 6 species: channel cat, bullhead, carp, bluegill, white bass, and perch all the same day! What a blast!

Yes, it's just south down the road maybe 300-400 yards from the parking lot of the model range.

Don't be jed, I was in school as well. How much ice does utah lake have right now? I fish some ponds near there and would like to ice fish em', but I think they are springs and that the ice wouldn't be safe. One is superclear, and one is very dirty. There are some good bass in both, but they are really hard to catch.
Jed, where do you live. I went fishing saturday 15 minutes from home and got bows' through the ice.
