Deer Creek - Great day for fishing, catching, not so much
#1
Three of us fished DC today from our kick boats. We launched from the Island boat ramp and fished that area from 10:30 until 2:30.

We were all using fly tackle with both medium and fast sinking lines and various buggers, leeches, and soft hackles in sizes 4 - 10. We only managed to pick up four fish, all rainbows between 13" - 15" long. We only hooked a couple of other fish so the fishing was way slow for us. There were some fish feeding on the surface and some that were near the bottom in 25' - 40' of water.

The water temperature was 37-39 degrees and about 10' visibility in the water. The reservoir is just over 89% full.

The weather was great with temps from 29 - 44 degrees and no wind.

There were quite a few boats on the water that were fishing along the northwest side of the reservoir. Don't know how any of them did. There were lots of shore anglers.

When it stays this full over the winter it always has a hard time freezing. Let alone the weather that we have been having this year.

[#0000FF]Glad you were able to find some open water...with a few fish in it. Deer Creek can be good this time of year...or it can be stingy too. Might have been better up toward the Provo River inlet.

Do they have the barriers removed from the Island boat ramp?

Will be sending off some samples of the "Green Poison" hotheads I promised.

Your probably right, we could have done better by launching at the Charleston access.

The barriers are still up on the island ramp. It makes for easier launching the tubes without having to get in anybody's way, or worry about getting run over.[Wink]

Thanks for giving me a chance to field test your new "Green Poison" patterns. It's always fun to try new stuff. Your "Hot Heads" have a high approval rating with the fish.[Smile]
