I took my family to San Diego for vacation last week. While out there I was able to jump on a charter 2 times. The first time it was just me and about 15 ppl on. Did really well. I limited out on rock fish and threw back almost double that on the little guys lol. Even though there is no size limit I don't want small guys. I have a thing, if is not worth cleaning then it's not worth keeping. But I got really lucky on this trip. I almost had to pay a guy for his rod that he let me use. I was fishing went to set the hook and it slipped out of my hand I 200+feet of water. About 15 min later a guy that was fishing next to me caught the line and was able to pull it up from 200+feet down. Talk about lucky me. The next trip I took I took because my older son really wanted to go so I took him. I love being able to take my son fishing he really enjoys it when were out there. We did really good caught allot but only keep 15. Not a limit for both but was enough for us so we can do fish tacos when we get back. Plus I for a nice sea bass and a couple sand dollars fish. Really great eating. For those not sure what a sand dollar fish is they are small flounder like fish. Great eating. On the way back we saw a couple of guys out on the ocean on jet ski set up to fish. Not sure how I would feel about fishing like that but I would give it a try. I would recommend taking a charter of you guys ever get out that way allot of fun.

Will you tell me what was your cost and who you chartered with.
I did the same last year out of Anaheim cal. Good fun. Was still cold water.
Was hopping to try out of San Francisco this year.

I went threw seaforth out of mission bay San Diego. The cost was 48 plus 15 per rod and another 15 for licenses. then they cleaned the fish how you want them for $1 per fish limit is 10 fish. And when I got off the boat there was a seafood market that packaged them for me for $10 but not sure how they charge seeing the first day I had a total of 2.5 lb and the 2nd day I had almost 4 lb and got charged the same

Then do you ship fish home or just try to eat it all while on the trip?

Heading out near there early June, but trailering the boat down. Any advice on what you used for bait and locations?
When it comes to processing the fish do they waste quite a bit? Seems like for catching limits only a few pounds of meat seems small.
Thanks.

I threw them under dry ice and bring them back in a cooler.

That time sardine will be best. Rick fish don't get that big. In June fish around the kelp beds I would think. Just when you get there ask the bait shops about where And what to use
