[#0000FF]I got the message below from Sam at the Utah Lake Commission yesterday.[/#0000FF]
The ULSP dredging is progressing well. They were able to secure some additional funding to dredge more material out. We just had a meeting this morning to discuss the project. They are currently at 67% completed on the dredging, which is about 42,000 cubic yards of material. They are working on converting one of their parking lots to site more of the dredged material. They are also improving the remaining camp sites with wood chips, new fire pits, etc. They have also installed pavilions at almost all of the picnic tables in the day-use area. There are plans to extend the asphalt on the northern jetty, and extend road base out onto the southern jetty. Lots of great improvements coming along!
The State Park management has decided that the camera will not be put up again during this construction project. They have agreed to post photos/updates to their Facebook page, here's the link:

Sounds like they are making good progress. I, not sure what the proposed deadline was though. But with the improved roads on the jetty’s that will make a big difference as the roads were terrible. The park for as busy as it was, was in my opinion a bit shoddy and needed some help so hopefully with pavilions and such it will make for a more enjoyable time with my family when we go.
Thanks TD for the update.

I assume the target date for re-opening the park is still April 1st. Did he mention anything on that other than the percentage completed?

[#0000FF]I asked for a projected completion date. But the best they can do is a percent completed. Keeping it open for "unforeseen" delays. Sound like politicians rather than contractors.
I know they want to have everything done and gone before the June sucker festivities. Otherwise, they will likely get construction work put on hold until after the Junies quit frolicking.

Are they only dredging the channel? I thought they were dredging the whole marina.

[#0000FF]They are dredging the whole marina. That's why they took all the docks and other stuff out before they began digging up the bottom with the heavy equipment.

No hard date is pretty understandable. My best guess is mid-late May. I know that's probably what most people wouldn't wanna hear, but it's a reasonable estimate on the long end based on what I've seen. I've had an up close look at it and the pictures don't really capture just how much material has been taken out of there. Seriously, that thing is DEEP compared to most of the lake. I think I'll primarily be fishing from a boat this year, but it's great to hear about their plans for asphalt. I would have just settled for something with less potholes.
Too bad about the camera, but its probably best they don't open themselves up to the possibility of someone finding a problem with how they're doing things, regardless of their expertise.

Any idea how deep they are making it?

[#0000FF]Can't recall any published figures. But I seem to recall that they estimated something over 3' deeper.
When they get through the lake will be as deep as the surface to the bottom. I think.

From one of the pics it looks like they are putting some kind of liner down in the harbor area !! Does anyone see that or am I dreaming. Kind of that yellow clay they use as a base before pouring slabs for buildings.

[#0000FF]Is this the picture you mean? If so, I am not sure but maybe someone else on the board knows more.

I thought that picture was taken where they're going to put the soil that they've dredged out of the harbor. The photo was taken before they started, so it's not something that is being done to the bottom of the harbor.

Just keep this in mind. An area 60 feet wide and 700 feet long 3 feet deep is 42,000 cubic yards. Or 120 feet wide by 350 feet long by 3 feet deep. It doesn't take a lot of space to make 42,000 yards of material.

42,000 cubic yards X 27 cu ft per cubic yard = 1,134,000 cubic feet
1,134,000 cubic feet/3 feet (deep)=378,000 sq feet
378,000 sq feet / 120 feet = 3150 feet
So an are 3 feet deep, 120 feet wide and 3150 feet long yields about 42,000 cubic yards.
One of us has a math error?

Yea, that is the one. The background suggests that it is looking north east from the south side of the outer harbor area. Looks to be 4-5 ft deep with tapered sides. Will have to take a trip and see what I can learn !!!

The picture TD posted is probably where they're putting material. When I saw the harbor, there was water in the bottom running on the North end to some pumps at the coffer dam. Might be a situation where there's a bit of leakage, so they're always pumping water out. No idea how deep the water was in there, but I think we'll see 8-10 feet at normal levels once it's done. By the way it looked, probably deeper than that.
