Starvation - Picking up a little
#1
I decided to give Starvation another try today from my tube. This time I launched in the Knight Hollow area around 8:00 and fished until 3:00. The weather could not have been nicer with no wind and temps from 20's to 50's.

I used a medium sinking line along with size 6 bead head leeches and crystal buggers. I picked up all rainbows from 17" to 19" long. The fishing wasn't fast but it was much better than last week at Indian Bay. I missed about twice as many fish as I caught, I must be slowing down.[:/]

The water temperature was 39-42 degrees with the colder water near the tunnel outlet. The visibility in the water was about 4'. The water is a little murky here because of the Duchesene River water diverted into the reservoir. The reservoir is still full and spilling.

Better fishing is just around the corner.[Smile]

[#0000FF]Glad you got a few fish. It should only get better from here. Maybe some walleyes soon.

That water really does look high.

Sounds like you got eve for the last trip anyway! The high water should mean a good spawn for many of the species in there. Good news for the future!

Your right, the high water should help. There will be plenty of cover for the youngsters. For some reason the BOR did not let Starvation fill last year even with all the snow we had.

This year it has been full and spilling since late February.

[#0000FF]There should be some prespawn and spawning fish showing up about now. But the best fishing...for the most fish...and the most active fish...will be from about mid May onward. I usually do well in June and July.

These fish look like spawning males with the dark colored bellies.

Looks like fun.
