Utah Lake April 5th
#1
Took the boat out with a friend this morning to Utah Lake, hoping to get into a few 10 lb walleye ???? First of all Utah lake and I have a hate...hate relationship most of the time. I’d really like that to change, but today wasn’t: the day. Got there (Lincoln beach) at 6:00. Lake was 47 degrees, calm. We jumped around from 8 ft deep to 3ft. After only a few hits, getting discouraged and nothing in the boat we headed to the Island. 2 other boats were there, and it looked like one of those were looking for catfish. We threw all of the Utah Lake secret weapons we had... 10 different color Grubs, the same number of square bills, Rapalas, even tried a drop shot set up, and nothing. By the time we were ready to leave, a few had waded out and one other fisherman was on a float tube, and saw nothing caught between them or anyone else at the island either. Left at about 10:30. I know that 47 isn’t the magic temperature, but we were hoping otherwise. I wanted to take some pictures, but lost my phone and nothing much to show you haven’t already seen. Anyway.... I’d wait another week and hope for a few warm days before spending too much time on Big green Pond. Smile

Thanks for the report. I talked to a couple of guys just above the closure on the Provo River last night, and their experience was similar. Maybe next week.

Never have I been totally skunked from a boat on Utah lake. You’d think at least 1 white bass??? Everybody predicted an early spawn because of the warm winter, then winter hit late and sent the whole theory right down the drain, and even possibly delayed it? Anyway, we’ll be back after the temp hits low 50s. Enjoy the season!!

I was out at the island fishing for Walleye and Cats. After snagging bottom three times in a row and no hits on the curly tail I gave up on the Walleye and just focused on cats. I caught a few but it certainly wasn't fast fishing.
