The weather was GREAT all week. And the forecast for this weekend starting Friday was for increasing clouds, rain, thunder storms [mad]
Well I had a terminal case of cabin fever, so yesterday I grabbed some of my carp bait, some worms, my 2 heavy rigged cat poles and headed up to the Bird Refuge. Figured if it was raining when I got there, I'd just sit in the truck and drink coffee. At least I would be out of the house.
Well it was a bit windy, and it rained some off and on for the first hour I was there. When the rain stopped at one point I rigged up my poles, one with carp, one with worm, and set them in the open ends of the guard rail posts just over the gate bridge., then sat in truck watching them. Hey, I was getting lines in the water and staying dry, so I was starting to feel not so cabin fevered............[
]
Weather started improving, but nothing biting at first spot. Moved to outflow side of the gate, was able to get out my lazy man chair, and drown my bait in comfort. Got one hard hit an adrenaline pumping 5 minute fight with a large Carp. As I had not brought anything to take her home with to cut for bait, I released her.
Cleared up real nice, skeeter came out to swarm. Thought the wind would keep them down, but no such luck.[:/] Moved across river to the spot near the new observation tower, wind blowing from different direction seemed to take care of the skeeter issue. Hooked up another Carp, not as big as #1 but a good tussle. Moved on down the river working my way back towards the visitors center. Fished about an hour in 2 or 3 other spots. Caught some small Channel kittens, released all. Posted the smallest one on the contest, I figure it's my smallest, but not THE smallest. Oh well, turned into a good day in the sun anyway. [fishon]
