Bird island 5/26/18
#1
So today was a special treat for me. I got to go out with catchinon from BFT. We met for the first time at 830 am and got the got our stuff in the boat and got it in the water and set sails for bird island. About 5 minutes into the trip I turned and went back and got our life jackets that I stupidly left in the back of my truck. Ok 9am and we set sails for bird island safely. We got there and and I quickly got a line out and and quickly got a fish on, about 2 minutes in the water. I got rebated and and got it back out and about 5 minutes later and my bait feeder is zooming again but this one got off. I thought this was going to be one heck of a day. A bit later catchinon added to the boat with a nice 24"er. My second fish just took off. It was sending the bait feeder in a frenzy. I grabbed my pole and thought I had a monster. I had quite a fight getting the beast in. Once I got to the boat I saw why. I was a monster 8-10 lbs of pure mass...golden, scaly mass with a tiny sucker looking mouth. It was my first my first ever carp that I caught. I filleted half of it for bait and we fished for a bit longer before we moved a bit further. This is where the fish came. Over the course of the next hour and a half or so I got 2 more catfish for me and catchinon brought in 2 more. He lost about 4 or he would have really whooped me. We tried one more spot on the west side of the island but the wind was was starting to pick up a bit to. UCB m]for my liking in my aluminum boat. I said mai]ybe we can try Benjamin slough where we would be a bit closer if the wind does decide to pick up so we started to head there but as we neared the dike there was water skiers and jet skies every where. I told him i don’t think we’ll catch anything with them running over the water so we called it a day. All in we each caught 3 cats even though mine were only 19-20" but I got the kicker with the carp. And it was a pleasure to meet and fish with catchinon.

Thanks again for taking me out today, it was a blast. I'm still catching on that I have to let them run a while before trying to set the hook. Still they were all hooked in the corner of their mouths, and this with plain old Eagle Claw baitholders. You forgot to tell how I let the big one get tangled in the anchor rope and you had to save the day. A good day, and a new friend to boot.

The older I get the more I would rather be considered a good man than a good fisherman.

Good job on the kitties. And the Golden Scale Buglemouth Bass. Watch out Catchinon you’ll be converted to to Cataholic! No cure. Can only treat the symptoms with more cat fishing. You will suffer from thoughts of getting more bait, more gear, watching weather report (especially wind reports),and checking BFT Catfish Contest Scores multiple times each day. Welcome to the Cat-a-Holics team. Good job Mooseman75 for taking a fellow BFT’er out for a good day on the pond.

I did forget about the anchor but like you catching the biggest fish I didn’t want to give myself a big Paton the back[Wink] it’s all apart of the job I’m just glad we got the fish in the boat and he didn’t chomp down on my hand to hard. They have quite the bite when they want to. It was the utmost pleasure to get to know you a bit today and fish with and I only hope we can do it again some time time in the future.

Have had all those symptoms for a while now. Just need to spend more time at the lake!
