[#0000FF]Hey brat, it's good that you are concerned, but as far as the fish go they do not soak up or accumulate any of that stuff in their tissues. No fish samples taken during the past couple of years...during the algae outbreaks...have shown any contamination from the nasty stuff. But it is always wise to rinse them thoroughly and discard the skin and innards.

Julia, I've asked the same thing about Utah Lake and the regulars ( TD, ice_sled, Pisco, etc.) said that they just keep on fishing--just be careful not to submerge yourself or drink too much (water OR alcohol) [

]. If you want to travel a bit, Provo harbor is pretty clear; I have been fishing there a couple of times this week and it doesn't look bad at all. Anyway, you won't get much water on your hands if you're careful and you can always rinse with fresh water, too. Practically speaking, the warnings are really for people like skiers who actually get in the water. It's up to your best judgement, but you probably won't grow an extra finger or anything if you get a little water on your hands. If you do go, good luck and have some fun!

[#0000FF]Okay, if you need scienterrific backup, here is one of the writeups I included in my Utah Lake book. It corroborates that the cyanotoxins typically do not build up in the tissues of fish...although they may in some of the organs.

[#0000FF]Like humans, fish have organs that help cleanse foreign substances from their bodies and the algae bad stuff is quickly eliminated. Unlike PCBs and some chlorinated hydrocarbons, which accumulate and build up in the tissues, cyanotoxins do not.[/#0000FF]

Yuck, I don't drink alcohol... I'm a wimp with it, taste and "holding" it LOL Bovine milk and unfermented fruit juice is my staples!
I don't like to go far, maybe an hour away tops. Kinda disappointed Kolob is so far away... I'd love to go help clear out all the perch! Yummy!
Thanks, TubeDude!
I just wasnt sure if rinsing was good enough, as it was on the news. To me, it made it sound as if just getting it on your skin was dangerous!
