Thanks for the link Kent, I'm bumping this up because it seems we always get a few newbies to ice fishing every year. This would be great intro for anyone that wants to learn the basics and hopefully about how to be safe while fishing on the ice as well.

Last week when Ira, John and I were out fishing at Mantua, these two teen girls came walking out onto the ice, not a clue in the world what they were doing. They were not fishing just walking around, laughing and having fun. We did not think much about it until they walked right past us, into an area that did not look good, maybe a spring. All three of us at the same time told them they should stop and not venture out any farther, because of the threat of thin ice. A lot of people are like that, they go out on ice, that they have no business going on and don't check it see if it is safe, they just assume that because someone is out there, the whole lake is safe.
