Strawberry with Spouse
#1
I've had my wife in my boat a few times before (she's not much of a water person), and this was the first time she agreed to try Strawberry with me....so because of this we were'nt actually fishing 'til about 0800....not ideal for the kokanee bite....But we were ok...on the water, and fishing...at first just two poles, then a bit later I stacked on one side also....when I'm doing all the work, steering the boat, setting up rods, selecting lures, baiting, releasing line from DR clip, handing off pole, doing the netting, bonking and icing the 'keepers'....pheew....that's a lot of work for an old guy......but it was worth it; we had a good A.M. on the water (Friday), no wind, caught some nice kokes and cutts...her first ever kokanee...first a 11"er, then 14", then 17"er....so she was thrilled....later I forced myself to reel in a couple also, one a 20"er, 3.5lb...my largest Strawberry koke to date....mostly pinks again, esp. pink metallic hoochie w/added glow spinner/corn....mostly still 31 to 36' depth......Guluk....

That sounds like a familiar routine, but the best fishing companion I’ve ever had.

Yeah, that was my first solo launch and retrieve also...4 or 5 years ago she could help with both, but those days are gone, Sadly....But, we still had a good fishing experience, and I can still do all those things that have to be done to make it work....so it's a good thing....see you on the water....Guluk...

Glad you had a great day on the water with the MRS. The wife has been my favorite hunting and fishing partner for over half a century, getting harder for us every year but we still enjoy it.

Good to hear you're still out there and 'keepin on keepin on'.....Just 35 years for us, and some pretty interesting fishing trips to the Uinta's,many lower elevation lakes, even a few ice fishing trips, a few attempts to the duck marshes (her getting stuck in the mud didn't help), even a couple trips to the dove fields.....so she's been a pretty good sport about it, especially where she wasn't raised with any of this........I'd sure like to encourage any of you fathers out there that have daughters, to take them out with you, just like your sons....give them a good introduction to the outdoors, camping, hunting and fishing, so at some time in the future when she finds a good guy that likes to hunt and fish, well, she'll wiggle in a lot better, and maybe share the joys and adventures for 50 + years, like PackFan.......Guluk....

I have read about a lot of people taking their wives and daughters out fishing recently and I say good on ya. My wife is a SoCal gal and doesn't like fishing and hunting but she supports me. (She thinks fishing is going out on the ocean in big boats, etc. and wants me to go out overnight the next time we get down to Calif.) My two daughters are a different case though. They love to fish. The older one has held many positions that are usually reserved for men only and done a wonderful job. She out shot everyone in her ROTC unit. And my DIL is hooked on fishing, especially for kokes after going after them with liketrolling. You might say I'm a feminist.

The older I get the more I would rather be considered a good man than a good fisherman.

Hay Craig I completely agree . my grand kids, ones a little lady, are great partners. I let her drive the boat and at 14 she can drive my truck, in the mountains. I had to ask my sons if they would like to go. But my grandkids ask me!
I need to have someone to give my stuff to, guess who is getting it.
Everyone just do it, grab your kids and get them started.
Next project is to help my 12 year old get his Musky.
