Lithium Battery Care
#1
Good afternoon boys & girls,

Today’s school lesson is going to be about taking care of the lithium batteries in your boat.  This lesson is about 10 minutes long and I want you to take notes so that you will remember this lesson going forward into the 2025 fishing season.

Thanks Mildog for bringing it to my attention.

Thanks Bob, good information. I have my first Lithium battery but don't know when my next fishing trip will be. I purchased a shunt with a battery charge indicator ready to install which will help me keep an eye on how much charge is available for those day outings.   Shy

Yes good info! Share with your fishing buddies ! I was looking into a charging system
I could install in my boat using a dc-dc charger isolator system that another buddy had mentioned to me after doing some research and seeing this video. I have decided that constantly charging it while using boat and electronics may not be best option for top performance and life of the battery. Saved me some money and may have increased life span of batteries. I now monitor the battery and charge it when down lower than needed for next trip and stop charging at less than full. Bluetooth monitoring built into the batteries I have , is great, as I now know my capacity on batteries and how much I use on fishing trips! Most of us have been trained and stuck in the lead acid days of always charge battery immediately after use ! I Once saw an article about how they learned in the use of satellite batteries in space the amount of charge and how often charged and how much charge, greatly affected the life span of those batteries in space, by maximizing the cycles they get batteries to last for a very long time! Many times longer than before. I think cell phones vary charge rate to prolong battery, but then again , I think
They want them to fail so we buy a new phone!!?

I noticed most who do a 24V system purchase 2 12V batts. I can go that route but opted for 1 24V batt for my system. As much as I get out fishing this should be ample to do with. This is the battery I purchased.

Next, I purchased a battery charger specific for Lithium. Also purchased a shunt with an indicator so I can see how much charge is available or when to recharge.
