I agree. It's really Sad that some of our fellow fishermen treat our lakes and rivers like their personal dumping ground.

I agree with you and I do the same thing. One person on here said "one mans trash, is anouther mans treasure". I do not agree. NO trash is treasure if it is messing up the beuty of our parks. Pack it in, pack it out! And take the other guys treasure with you.

I'll second that. I always try to take out a little extra. It's too bad that people just can't pick up what they brought in....oh well.

For all you who pick up the mono it's a good thing, the bird's esp. get hung up in it. I'm sure there is ather things that get hurt by it and it looks bad on the beaches, I've been picking up O P trash in deer camps for years, just seems second nature to do it on the beaches also. keep up the good work.

I am glad to see some us still care about our waters! You would think nobody gives a *)^% any more with all the trash surrounding you as we fish. Remember to teach the little ones how important is to pickup after them self and others. Great post MustBblind.

i agree as well and im glad im not the only one picking it up and throwing it away....i dont see why its so hard to not throw it away instead of putting it in the water or on the ground....it really bad when there is a garbage can not that far away usually...and i hate catching someone elses line when im fishing...but its nice payment when there is a lure on the end of it..just watch out for those hooks...lol

Even better than that is when there's still a fish attached to that hook at the end of the line![Wink]

In this case it refers to the fact that some people don't care about throwing trash on the ground, while others feel rewarded for removing it. I used to walk Cemetary Point at Pineview and pickup handfulls of glass then walkup to the best looking girls on the beach and ask them if they had a bag to put on the glass in. Instant conversation, my reward..... priceless.

It never ceases to amaze me how people "soil their own nests". Some people blame our lakeside trash problems as an ethnic or cultural thing. I don't know, maybe there is some truth to that, but there are a lot of "WASPS" out there that litter with the best of anyone. Perhaps that gives a new meaning to the term "White Trash". Regardless of who the offender is, a little education and peer pressure from all of us when we are out in the wilds has got to help. Picking up other peoples trash like we all do helps, but we need to address the root problem.

Good post mustbblind, I also have taught my kids to pick up after others. I don't think that a lot of people leave their trash behind, but these jerks will never change their ways. They need to be caught and fined but that will probable not happen so it is up to the rest of us to babysit them. I would like to see more garbage cans in areas that draw crowds but that costs money and we all know that there isn't enough of that to go around. If the real sportsmen and women will continue to clean up after the children of this world,it will be a better place. I thank all of you that care enough for our environment to take care of it. You are my heroes DKS

I strongly agree that more garbage cans are needed. At the Bountiful pond they have a large number of picnic tables and BBQs, two fishing piers, a boat launch for canoes & tubes, restrooms, handicapped facilities and one lousy 55 gallon barrel for trash that is always overflowing. No wonder there is so much trash around. You have to make it easy for the slobs to dump their trash. If a can is not close, down on the ground it goes.[mad]

I find it very intriguing but then again it's bullcrap! Most of the garbage left behind are most likely beer cans or bottles along with its trash after a drinking/fishing while underaged...

If you are underaged, would you like to be caught with empty beer bottles/cans while you reek of alcohol?

I think the answer is NO, and they WILL LEAVE IT BEHIND AND NOT DRIVE AROUND WITH EMPTY OPEN CONTAINERS... there's the answer. I see this all too often at night-time where teenagers would go drinking and fishing doing dumb fool things at Deer Creek's Island. Same thing with Yuba when they had that infamous spring fling that left thousands pounds of garbage.

Am I correct in this assumption?

Hey mostbblind, I like that post to pisces, blank, I could't find anything nice to say to that either. garbage has no place in the outdoors. pack it in, pack it out. I also pick up others trash left behind. like today, my wife neted a empty one gallon jug of anti-freeze. what the heck is that doing out on lincoln beach. some people just make you sick, makes you wonder what there houses look like, (a dump) later chuck

I have been to many lakes in Utah and see people fishing only ton watchn them leave all their trash behind them for someone else to pick up. Sometimes I've commented to them about it and usually get a positive response and they clean up their spot. Other time they show me their eye que with the one finger salute. The worst ones are the kids er young men in the early twenties or late teens. They are the ones with the finger problems. But most folks are generally apoligetic for leaving a mess behind and will gladly clean up. With folks like this I always offer to help because I always carry extra bags out with me.

I'm guilty once in a while but not on purpose. I once opened up a new rod kit for my daughter piled the garbage up so it could be picked up later when we were done fishing and could not find the spot in the rocks where we placed it at the end of the day. We looked for over an hour but never found it. we also lost some other stuff that day so I suppose some good guy picked up our garbage to throw it out and found a small treasure in the mess. (hooks, lures, line, lunch) oh well it happens sometimes!

I AGREE THERE DOES SEEM TO BE ALOT OF TRASH AROUND ALOT OF OUR LAKES. I'M NOT SURE IF I COMES FROM PEOPLE JUST SHOWING UP FOR THERE ONCE A YEAR FISHING TRIP OR IF IT'S AVID FISHERMAN BUT I WOULD HOPE THAT PEOPLE WOULD JUST TAKE A MINUTE TO PICK THERE STUFF UP THAT THEY PACK IN.. WE ARE LUCKY TO HAVE SO MANY NICE LAKES TO GO TO THAT WE SHOULD MAKE SURE THEY STAY THAT WAY AND PICK UP AFTER OURSELVES. [mad]
