Jordan River
#1
I fished the jordan twice today. At about 1 or so this afternoon, I went down there alone. I managed 1 sucker and a couple whities to boot. At the very end, when I was leaving I had a BIG fish break me off.
At 5, I went back down there with Ronda and the fresh sucker. I rigged us up, and casted out. Strait away, I hooked a very nice channel, at about 22". Ronda wound up catching 3 big mud cats, and a channel. I got 2 mudders, and 3 more channels. All the channels were 20-24", the mudders were 16-18". They were all real nice fish! One great day on the waterl.

[cool]Hey JK15, that's too bad that that monster broke you off. Sounds like you need to get some heavier line, but that's really cool about the other cats that you caught and the whities. How much would you say that 24 incher weighs?

I live in South Salt Lake right between 33rd south and 39th south, and have thought about fishing the river behind my place, but never have. Maybe if I don't have too many appointments tomorrow I will fish it. Where were you fishing at this time...by 30th south?

Where on the Jordan River were you fishing. I live in an apartment complex right on the Jordan River between 39 and 45th south but I have not fished the river yet. I would like to try it so any info you can pass along would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

We were fishing that hole about 30th so. I was using some smelt for bait that I picked up to fish at Bear lake. all we caught were channel cats. no bull heads or suckers. I took some pics but I dont have a digital camera so as soon as I get them developed I'll post them.

I can't see how he did it. With freekin 25 pound spider wire I didn't think I could break anything off. Proved me wrong! I'd figure the 24 incher was about 3 pounds. I'm probly off a bit, though. Yep, down by 30th again. I really need to look into the exact south of that hole someday.

I fish it below 33rd south. Where your at, though, you have some great cat water. I'd recomend using fresh sucker or carp, and some stink bait. Most times they'll take the fish, but occasionally they like the stinky stuff, too.

That holes pretty darn good for cats! Most of my cats came right at dark. That 28" is one heck of a nice channel! I'll have to pack down my good camra the next time I go. It'd be nice to get my name in the records!

Over off of 30th, in that same old hole. The fresh sucker saved me, I'm sure of it. Every last cat came off of it. Just huckin it out on a big strait hook, with a sinker. They were nailing it within a few minutes of being in the water.

[shocked]Wow! What a freakin' monster that fish must have been! Either that, or your line was a little frayed from rubbing against some rocks, or maybe from those walleye you got into last time. My guess is a little of both. That would have been cool if you landed him, but you'll get into another big one soon enough. I need to get out there.

Hey Kid, your worries about under rated and broken line will be over soon. I am testing some special line for a company right now. A couple of weeks ago, I landed a 25lb shark on 10lb line without any problems. Check out my last post on the Catalina Islands. It is over on the Cali board.

Tried my Jordan river whole last night from about 7:00 till 8:30 , One nice channel Cat and a few hits that I missed, using Mackeral.

This spot might get too much pressure do to easy access. hmmmmm
