Thanks for the report and the pictures, it sure looks like the water has a long way to go to fill the lake. Were there any other people fishing? WH2

Good to see the old Yuba filling up once again. Does anyone know if they planted walleye back in Yuba? I have heard that they planted some pearch and trout, but no walleye. I took some pictures from the dam last fall when they were working on the dam and it was nothing but a mud hole. I believe in an earlier post someone said that walleye had been put back in. In talking with our local wildlife officer last winter, I sensed that the fish and chips did not want to plant walleye, he talked of it being a world class pearch fishery and thats what Yuba shoud be. He said that there was enough walleye left in the small water (I call them mud holes) holes to resupply the lake with walleyes. I question this. The sevier river was dry above the lake so I doubt that anything was left in the river. Would sure like to catch another Yuba walleye someday.

i love fising for walleye especially in there..That is the only place that i have consistantly caught walleye in numbers..i have had 20fish mornings out there on the walleye. not to mention the jumbo channnel that used to reside in the reservior. and the pike were a bonus.. do you guys think that the pike will be able to establich themselves again?

I ahve spoken to some of the park rangers and they said the same thing .Walleyes have not been planted yet but some might have survived in there .They said they wanted the perch to establish themselves first before any walleyes got stocked.I also heard rumors about smallies being put in there dont know if thats going to happen though.

I have wondered if the walleyes (and other fish) would have made it down stream. Could they still be in the river? Did they make it to DMAD or Gunnison Bend, or did they all just die for ever? Is there much access to fish any of the downstream waters (the river or the reservors)? Is it legal to fish DMAD or Gunnison Bend?
My family HAD a summer house in Scipio and I spent a lot of time down there as a kid, but we never did much fishing in that area, so I am kinda unfamiliar with the waters in that area. I would like to get to know them but I am a little afraid of trespassing on some farmers land as I am fishing.
Can anyone give a few pointers on where the river can be fished?
Thanks boys and girls! Cowmilker

there is some pretty goood fishing gunnison, all kinds of different speceis, but dmad... that is a different story. no one fishes dmad. but i bet that there are some monster channels in dmad.... but i have only been there once. and the fishing was good in the pool below the dam. lots of carp in there too.

I think that a lot of fish survived down river and could have ended up in dmad or gunnison bend.I am going to have to try those places soon.

Most of the Sevier river from Lynndyl to DMAD is through cattle range land, but I never had anyone complain or kick me out. There are four or five dirt roads that go from the highway down to the river. The irrigatiion companies have wells along the river that can be pumped to supplement the flow of the river, and at times when the water is too salty they pump the fresh water into the river to lower the salinity. If you can locate a place where there is fresh water flowing into the river it is usually better fishing as the fish seem to be attracted to the cooler fresher water. There is a road north of the Delta airport that leads to the DMAD boat ramp on the south side of the river channel. Years ago when I was there last it was in poor condition. Unless it has been repaired it would be hard to launch a large boat there. Gunnison Bend Reservoir has a county park located on the west side and good ramp and facilities. It is real popular for water skiing which makes the fishing harder. It is open fishing at both DMAD and Gunnison Bend. There is an irrigation canal that comes out of DMAD in the middle of the dam and called the "A" canal. It was one of my favorite fishing holes for white bass until the orientals found out about it and fished it out. They would keep every bass they caught and take them home to eat, even the little ones. It has been 8 years since I lived and fished there, but I still have fond memories of the place. In the summers we would take our lanterns and fish along the river at night for channel cats. Pretty fun. Acey

Thank you all very much! I have always wondered about DMAD. I have never heard about anyone fishing it and I wondered if it was a dead lake, or closed to fishing, or catch and release only (therefor not a good place to go kids), but now I will have to make a trip down there. It may take a few weeks but at least I know I may catch something.
Thanks Lady's,
