Pogie bait
#1
(Or however it was spelled).. I'm just curious to know how any of us can recall the day's of pogie bait and the red stained fingers it always left us with..

For those to young to know, pogie bait was basically a percursor to power bait,, altho it stopped being sold years before hand.. Whats more,, how many of use were guilty of using garlic sqeeze cheeze from the tube? Funny thing was,, I eat more of the cheeze than I fed to the fishies,, hey,, it was great on crackers,, lol!

[cool][blue]Hey Don, I think there are still a few of us oldtimers who can remember stopping at the little stand in the Provo Canyon on the way to Deer Creek. I used to use both red and yellow on a tandem hook rig. Sure caught lots of fish...including some big perch back in the days when they were the "trash fish" of Deer Creek.[/blue]

[#0000ff]I have made my own versions of Pokey Bait over the years, using the Pautzkes red nectar, anise oil, flour and Velveeta cheese. Heck, I remember when every fisherman in Utah used Velveeta. And I often sprinkled some garlic powder in mine...as I did in my red salmon eggs. Great breakfast treat.[/#0000ff]

As you probably know,, the old boy that created Pokey sold the recipe years and years ago, shortly before he died.. Whats more,, he never told his wife what its ingredients were.. Man I miss those red stained fingers,,NOT,,lol!

[laugh]lmao, I remember having a brick or two of velveeta in my tackle box, that brings back some memories, I remember my Dad eating some and I about got sick, thinking it equated to the bottled salmon eggs, but as I got older I realized it was a food item, but to this day I cannot get myself to eat it, even when a recipe calls for it for a dip or somthing. too damned many memories of the days when your hands stunk like garlic cheese and fish. thanks for the memories guys..
