Galvanized Gas Tank
#1
O. K. Ive got a question, today I was cleaning up under the bow of my boat and noticed that one of the gas tankd is a home made one, It's made from one of those galvanized flat/square kind of containers, I've only seen grain stored in them kind of like it's from a farm, maybe maybe not. The point is, is galvanized bad with gas, it seems to me it might spark so that could be why I've not seen anything like this before. The other tank is one of the polypropelene, black ones. How about some input on this and let me know if I'm worrying about nothin or if it needs to come out. Thank's

I've worked on alot of boats and theres a few people here on BFT (greatest site inthe world) that will tell you that the first thing that I tell them is to get rid of any metal tank.

have you every watched a soda can sweat in the sun? just think of all that water you could be putting into your gas.

not to mention that they can rust and they dont expand and contract like a plastic tank. and like you mentioned they can also spark and ignite.

most plastic tanks now have ground lines connected to them so that static electricity cannot make a spark but when you accidently slide an anchor along a metal tank the chance of it igniting is alot greater.

as far as marine use I like having portable tanks that can be stored and cleaned every year outside my boat. as polokid mentiond its alot easier to take a tank out to go fuel than it is to take a boat out of the water and run it to the gas station.

just my 2 cents
