The Horseshoe Canyon shortcut is a good idea, but I believe it is more important to extend the Anvil Draw ramp. I think it may be closed again this year because of low water level. Isn't early spring the best time of year to to do extend it?
Don't we pay $20 a year for a Forest Service pass that is for Flaming Gorge improvements only? I can't see where that money is going.
Did anyone launch at Lucerne last year? Shouldn't the Floating Store dock be moved back at least 50' to make launching safer? This may be the Marina's responsibility, but shouldn't the Forest Service force them into doing so? With what they get for gas there I'm sure they could afford it.

The store is in the water at Lucerne. It is on the left side of the boat ramp as you go down. They have re-routed power to that side of the ramp, & it looks like they are re-routing the gas line to that side also, so they can put in the gas pumps. They are also reparing the boat ramp at Lucerne. They are cutting bad parts out of the ramp and putting in new concrete. Last week there was only one lane open, due to the construction. They had lot's of problems last year with the low water & close proximatey of the docks to the boat ramp. It appears that someone was thinking, & they are trying to make some improvements this year. I'm sure they had lot's of complaints last year. My buddy lost some gel coat off his boat last year due to the congested conditions. I also would like to see the Anvil ramp extended so it can be used again.

MY IN LAWS KEEP A 28 FOOT SEA RAY CRUISER IN DRY AT LUCERN. THE YARD BEHIND THE GENERAL STORE ON TOP OF THE HILL JUST BEFORE YOU GET TO THE RAMP. THEY TOLD US LAST YEAR THIS SPRING THEY WOULD BE DOING SOME RAMP IMPROVEMENTS, AS FAR AS MOVING THE DOCKS THEY WOULD HAVE TO GET ALL THOSE PEOPLE THAT LEAVE THEIR BOATS IN THE PRIVATE SLIPS TO SIGN OFF ON A "PERMISSION SLIP" SO THEY COULD MOVE THE BOATS, DOCKS, AND RIGGING UNDERWATER TO RELOCATE THEM THAT IS A PRETTY BIG PROJECT FOR SUCH A SMALL MARINA. I WOULD LOOK MORE FOR SOME EXPANSION IN THE OTHER DIRECTION OF THE BOAT RAMP, MAYBE WIDEN IT UP AND MOVE IT MORE OVER TOWARDS THE LOADING DOCK THAT RESIDED OFF TO THE LEFT OF THE RAMP AS YOU WERE FACING DOWN IT LAST YEAR, UNTILL THEY HIT THAT ROCK HIGHWALL THERE THAT MAKES THE PLATEU THEN I THINK THEY ARE DONE.
AS FAR AS THE HORSE SHOE BYPASS CHANNEL, I THINK THAT IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS THEY CAN DO, AS THERE IS NOTEABLE DAMAGE IN THE CANYON FROM THE WAKES CREATED WHEN PEOPLE TRAVEL THROUGH THERE AT HIGHER SPEEDS, IT IS AN IMPORTANT ECO STRUCTURE FOR THE OSPREY AND FISH THAT RESIDE THERE, IT IS ALSO VERY BEAUTIFUL AND I WOULD HATE TO SEE ITS BEAUTY DEMINISHED IN ANY WAY.
I BET IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS, YOU WILL SEE MOVEMENT ON THE ANVIL DRAW AND BUCKBOARD MARINAS AS FAR AS RAMP IMPROVMENTS AND UPDATED FACTILITIES. LUCERN IS ONE OF THE HIGH USE AREAS, BUT SO ARE THE OTHERS IF NOT A LITTLE HIGHER USE, THEY CHARGE THE HELL OUT OF YOU FOR GAS, HERES A FEW REASONS....FIRST THEY PUT "DRYING" ADDITIVES IN IT SO THE MOISTURE WONT RUIN THE FUEL. SECOND THEY HAVE SPECIALIZED HOLDING FACILITIES FOR THE FUEL, SO MOSTLY YOU ARE PAYING FOR THE EQUIPMENT TO HAVE THE FUEL THERE. ALSO I THINK THEY DO ACTUALLY SELL A "MARINE GRADE" FUEL. ITS STILL UNLEADED, STILL FUEL, BUT THE ADDITIVES IN IT THAT HELP PREVENT "WATER DAMAGE" TO YOUR BOAT PUSH THE COST UP. THAT IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY ONE OF THE GUYS THERE, SO UNLESS THEY HAVE A STORY MADE UP, I TEND TO THINK THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS. I HAVE NO REASON TO THINK OTHERWISE.
ON A LIGHTER NOTE, WE GO UP THERE ALMOST EVERY WEEKEND IN THE SUMMER AND CRUISE AROUND, SO IF YOU SEE A CABIN CRUISER WITHA FROG WINDSOCK OFF THE RADIO ANTENNA ILL MAYBE BE THERE, STOP BY FOR A COLD ONE.
LATERS,

You know that ALL the best stories start with "we just went to have a beer". But there wouldn't be a story if you only had one.
