Any suggestions?
#1
Just got back from the I-80 ponds, dudes were knocking them dead up there. This floater in front of me hit 8-10 17-19 large mouth in about 2 hrs. However I got skunked, it was a horrible day up there. Anyway that makes it 4 for 4 on the skunkings this year and probably 7 in a row. So my question is anybody have any ideas as far as a good place to go, and catch something this weekend? Preferably non trout. Spent hundreds of dollars and studied all the info I could get on Pineview for about two months, to catch bass and musky. Got up there last weekend, and it was so windy I couldn't even get my pole in the water.

Maybe someone is trying to tell me something. YOU SUCK!!
so I'd love to go up to Pineview this weekend, but it was so bad last weekend I can't imagine it's improved to much in a week. So I'll be looking forward to hearing your suggestions. As much as I love fishing, and believe you me I do. I can't take to much more skunking, I'm about ready to slam my head in a car door, and just forget fishing all together.

LOL

TIME ON THE WATER! Don't give up and keep using those techniques you've learned for muskie. They don't call them the fish of 1000 casts for nothing. I'd head right back up there and keep poundin'.

It's a good thing to that it's called fishing and not catching, otherwise the fishing gods might take me out to pasture and shoot me.

Pm when you figure out where and when your going this weekend.

Hey don't feel bad. I drove 300 miles, hit 2 different lakes this weekend, and only caught one little planter rainbow. Gotta take the bad with the good. You're not going to catch any fish sitting in front of the tv, and golf is not an alternative. Keep at it, bass season is coming up.

Don't feel bad about being skunked. I'm talking from experience here: it will get better - you'll get more and more used to being skunked until it doesn't bother you anymore. After being skunked 6 times in a row I forgot what it was like to actually catch fish and thought about just throwing out empty hooks.

As far as you being the official worst fisherman on BFT: I don't know... I give some pretty stiff competition. I can't even catch the fish in my own aquarium! Maybe you and I should go fishing together sometime and get this settled LOL.

May the fishing Gods Smile upon your lures.

go down to the local fish hatchery and toss a hook in there with the fish to water ratio i would say that you have a good shot at catching a fish......................lol

but on a more serious note i would try some different waters and try to get them figgured out, move around and try different lures till you find the combination that eorks best, and most of all i would spend alot of time at it, if you spend enough time you are bound to catch something, i am very profecient at catching the infamous weed fish so dont give up

I'm sorry you are not into trout. I have a perfect place to get some big TROUT this weekend if you want to come just to end the stinky or skunky stretch you are on. I live in Magna and will probably be leaving about sixish in the morning, if you are into that kind of torture on a weekend. Let me know. My truck has room for me plus one if anyone is interested. Just PM me if you live close. With gas the way it is, i cant go too far out of the way but I can open the door for you to jump in on the way by...... This is just if you don't want to get skunked....... if you are into doing it yourself and fighting through a skunk....more power to you and may the fish gods Smile kindly on your soul....... [Wink]

Your expectations are way to high and most warm water fish aren't very active right now. You expect catching muskie and largies to be easy and your just getting back into the sport. Try for some of the easier fish like gills, crappie or maybe some white bass to get your confidence up. If you don't think your going to catching anything you probable won't, mind over matter.

you know i will have to take you to i-80 pond i always catch fish there. even the people i go with do well i use a spinner witha worm with a ajust a bubble about a foot and a half away from the worm. you can buy the spinner with three beads and a hook for a couple of bucks. the silver ones work the best. there at the i-80 pond. hope that helps

sorry about the bad luck but it happens to all of us. as for hitting pineview. well I'm hitting it on friday if that tells you anything. I'm going just from shore. and if you want a place that you can get a fish for sure and not a trout pm and I'll send you to a place that you can get tons of fish(BAIT) most are only 5" to 8" long but they are fun. helps sometimes when in a rut. and I'm sure lots of guys on here would take them from you for bait if they knew you had some.

I have personally taken 30 to 40 trips to Deer Creek in the last 2 years chasing walleye and been skunked, so I am apt to recognize a fellow angler in need.

First off put down the remote and putter and go grab a handful of live bait....then find your tackle box, rod, net whatever you want. get in the car....at this point however you can put the bait in a cup or something, now drive to a good spot...middle provo, bait allowed section, jordanelle near rock cliffs, i got a tip from DWR tuesday night the rainbows are staging for the spawn at the provo inlet to jordanelle. shhh. now get out that lawn chair you brought, put bait on hook, with or without bobber, and huck it out near water with some flow....wait and enjoy the outdoors..like the redtail hawk riding the up draft of the hill behind you...or the mink waiting to steal a fish from you....or the moose across the river up on the hill...man it just dont get better than that...well..it does...crack a cold one, then it is the best. oh yeah take a buddy....he may save your fishng life.

laters,

Shunked at Deer Creek on Walleye, now how can that be?? LOL.

[unsure]I've fished it for 20 years and been shunked on a fairly regular bases.. But hey if time is whats called for, time is what I've put in and will continue to give. Besides,, I figure for every one I dont catch it only makes em a stronger bite for the next guy. [crazy]

I just wanted to add my dos centavos on the several comments about it not being bass season yet. I fish for bass more than anything else and this is as good a time as any. I start catching good bass at ice out and don't stop till the ice sets up again (I even get a few through the ice). Early spring is when I tend to catch my largest bass of the season. The big hens come in first and are hungry. It's all a matter of technique. Aside from joining a local BASS club, try reading Bassmaster magazine. This publication presents more high quality information than any publication I've seen. Bass are just like any other creature, they need to eat. Go for it.
