Deer Creek 5-01-04
#1
Spent about 5 hours on Deer Creek this afternoon with the wife trying to figure a way to get a bass to bite. Saw some fish on the graph, but could not get a touch from the cold blooded bad brown boys. Warmest water I could find was 54 degrees, which should be warm enough to get some action, but I guess they haven't gotten over the cold front yet. Will try again tomorrow a little earlier (before the wind kicks in) and see if they are more cooperative. Did manage to catch a rainbow on a jerk bait, but no hits from anything else.

Hit it this afternoon from shore. Didn't even get a bite. I did see one guy walk out with 4 trout. One was quite large. He said powerbait and worms. I only saw one other guy catch one. There were quite a few people out. It was a nice day though.

wow, 54 at deer creek! Jordanelle was only 44 first thing in the morning, and never reached 50, not by 4:30 pm anyways.

I think you are right about the cold front shutting down the bass. Yesterday, friday, at mantua fishing for largemouth, we could spot them, but we couldnt get them to commit to a good solid bite. We enticed a few, but mantua is much lower and warmer than deer creek and jordanelle. Even still, they just werent active. Skeeter fished mantua today, saturday, with no luck.

We didnt talk to anyone, or see anyone who got into the smallmouth at jordanelle. Lots and lots of guys chasing them though.

I had thought about going to deer creek today simply because if the smallmouth bite wasnt on, I could go for some walleye. But the desire to chase the big boys took over and I ended up at jordanelle.

We tried jerks too, no luck at all.

Hopefully after this week with lots of high 70 temps we will see the bass bite turn on real nice.

Usually, it takes three or four days of consistent weather (or at least warming) for the fish to get back on the bite. The catching was poor, but the fishing was great......what a day to be on the water! Nails

Hey Nails, the last time I saw Deer Creek it was still really low. Is the main State Park ramp open yet - nearest the dam? Are all the docks out? I read that a lot of extra water was getting released for the June Suckers, which is good for Provo River but not so good for Deer Creek, unless they make up for it from Jordanelle.
