I'm heading to Joes Valley July 4th weekend with tubes and 'toons. What species can be found? There's not a lot of info on BFT about it. I was hoping for some bass actions since it's a lower elevation body of water. Any info any of you have would be great!!
Or would millsite reservior be better choice?

[cool]I've driven past it, but never fished it, but it ain't no low elevation lake, I'll tell ya that much. It's in the Manti Lesalle National Forest and not too far away from Electric Lake and Hunington. It's got to be at least 6000 ft in elevation. Joes Valley has Splake in it, and maybe even Lake trout (not sure about that one). From what I understand from reading the regs and other stuff, there are some big ones in there, and they have to be a certain big size to keep I think like 22 inches or something along those lines. Jensonkid15 fished it a lot, but I think he got his feelings hurt or something and left the site. Too bad he ain't here to give you some pointers. I would p.m. fuzzyfisher. He fishes e-lake a lot, and may fish joes valley also. I might give it a try when I camp up near there for July 24th. Good luck. I do know that when the temps get up there the big splake go deeper in that lake, so your probably gonna wanna jig for em with some minnow or sucker meat on a jig etc. when it's hot outside. Good luck!

Thanks for the info I actually decided to go to Huntington State Park instead. iread on the DWR site that Joes Valley was about 6000 ft about the same elevation as Flaming Gorge which has as good populatiopn of smallmouth. I really am not a trout fisherman. I like fish that taste good [ ].

[cool]yeah, there ain't much bass in those parts, my friend. The closest place to there that I know of that has bass would be Gunnison Res., but I don't know a whole lot about that place, but it's out past Manti somewhere. Others on this site know more about that place. Hunington has Tiger Trout in it.

I've caught splake, 'bows, 'cuts, browns, and albinos and chubs out of JV... Take a good variety of tube jigs, marabou jigs, or other minnow type baits and you should have a ball... The fish earlier this year at JV were very thin (forage problems) but there are some BIG splake at JV to be found but you usually get them jigging over deeper ledges, or very early or late in the day... Hope this helps.. Rob

Hmmm, I guess I'm a little surprised that there aren't any smallies
The data sheet from the state says that the evevation is nearly the same as
Flaming Gorge
Joes Valley 6880
Flaming gorge 6092
I guess 800 feet makes all the difference. Course I found what looks to be a decent campground at Huntington State Park. Thanks for the info all!

[cool]I'm not trying to be a smarta$$ or anything, but elevation doesn't have much to do with if a lake has smallmouth or not. There's plenty of places in the south, and even midwest that aren't very high up in elevation that have smallmouth in them. For the most part, most mountain lakes don't have smallmouth in them with the exception of Deer Creek, Flaming Gorge (were they planted by bucket biologists?) Jordanelle, and only a FEW others. Most of the mountain lakes in Utah have TROUT as the major species, with a few exceptions. Unfortunately we do have bucket biologists-idiot rednecks that think they know better than the DWR, so that's why you find perch and walleye etc. in places not meant to have them. Anyhooters, I'll get off my soapbox now. Sorry for the ramblings.
