Has anyone tried Senkos at Bear Lake for the big lake trout? If so, what size/color/rig?
thanks...Jim

[cool][blue]Just an opinion, but Senkos were designed to be used with little or no weight, and to be fished in relatively shallow water. Their whole appeal to fish seems to be their unique action (or non-action), when allowed to sink naturally.[/blue]
[#0000ff]I have no doubt that Senkos would catch macks in deep water, if rigged and fished properly. However, if you are going to go to all the trouble of attaching heavy jig heads, or fishing drop shot style, why not stick with proven stuff, like tubes, grubs and dressed jigs. [/#0000ff] [#0000ff]These tried and tested lures have some action, when lifted, dropped or jigged on weighted heads. Most of the time a little wiggle helps seal the deal with deep macks and cuts. On other occasions, however, the fish are in neutral or inactive modes, and too much wiggle can keep the fish away. On such occasions, a "do nothing" (dead stick) Senko, rigged deep drop shot style, might just be a hot ticket.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Anyone who has spent any amount of time chasing macks is properly humble. They know that there are times when it doesn't matter what you send down. If you can find the fish (a big key) you can get bit. On other trips you spend the whole day getting more frustrated as you watch the fish on your sonar screen totally ignoring your best stuff.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff]In short, Macks will eat Senkos for sure. The only question is why would you want to spend the extra money (over tubes) just to prove a point? I seriously doubt they would hit them any more aggressively than the old standbys. But, I have been wrong before.[/#0000ff] [#0000ff]Again, just my opinion. I haven't put it to the test. Anybody else with more "up close and personal" experience with Senkos for macks?[/#0000ff] [signature]

[#804000]When in doubt throw them a curve, yes senkos do catch nicer trout. I sometimes used a 3/0 ewg with a 1/8 oz bullet weight on a texas rig(these are with 4"/5" senkos). I like contact with the bottom. Most trout hits are like texas rigged tubes, on the drop.[/#804000]
