I'm headed to Scofield for a few days today and am going to be hitting WalMart before we leave. We will be fishing from a boat. I have never fished Scofield and am wondering what kind of tackle I should pick up from Walmart. Lures, minnows, etc......... Specifics would be appreciated. Also, are treble hooks best when using powerbait, salmon eggs, etc.....? What size hooks should I use? Also, if I am going to fish with minnows, what kind of hooks should I use? Do you bait the hook by hooking the minnow through it's eyes or what? Any specific info is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I old standard marshmellow and crawler works well as well as tacking a salmon egg or two with it if setting still. Of course if your drifting merely remove the mellow. As far as hook perference, that would be your choice. I perfer a snell over a treble anytime and no matter witch bait is used, but again thats my choice. As far as minnow's, most folk use a casting net or minnow trap to catch and use freshly killed minnow's rather than store bought. Good luck

We had a 60 fish morning a couple of weeks back.
Keys were rainbow colored (yellowish spark) powerbait, small treble hooks, float bobbers filled with H20. We fished the northwest side of the island in 13' of water and went through a full jar of power bait in about 2 hours. Fast action and fun - anchor up and as soon as it hit the bottom you see the results.
Do I give out too many pointers with this post???

if sitting still i use 3 way swivel #2 baitholder cuz it will hold a full crawler and still have room for mallowoff the other side a #16 treble for power bait just enough to cover the hookabout 18in. leader if area is rocky use clear bubble to help with snags
if trolling standard gear works well there....

If you're going to be fishing from a boat, there is nothing more fun than trolling a triple teaser on mono line with a couple of 1/4 oz sinkers two feet away from the teaser. They love the black and pink triple teaser. Also, it is fun to troll with small pop gear followed by a worm which is also followed by two feet of mono with a flatfish attached at the end. Sometimes the fish take the worm and sometimes they take the flatfish.
