Ben Johnson from Nevada State Parks said that fishing pressure increased from the previous week. Due to low water levels and weedy conditions, anglers fishing from boats enjoyed more success.
Boaters reported good success for hand-size crappie. The fish were taken with gigs. Anglers stated that rainbow trout were not taking bait.
There has been a noticeable decline in the striper fishing during the past week in the Boulder Basin as anglers are having to search for fish. Although fish continue to be caught by boaters who are fishing off Boulder Beach, the action has slowed.
Boaters have reported some recent success around Sand Island and in coves around Callville Bay, but the bite in those areas has been sporadic. Most of the fish that have been caught recently weigh less than 2 pounds.
An experienced angler who was fishing from his boat on Saturday (9/4/04) in the Overton Arm had no luck. A few stripers and largemouth bass were caught over the weekend near the islands in front of Echo Bay.

A number of fish limits of 10 were caught by the 35 anglers who tried their luck following last week’s rainbow trout plant at Willow Beach. Unlike the previous week, the trout were not interested in lures and preferred PowerBait.
Fishing continues to be fair for striped bass around Cottonwood Cove with boaters taking stripers that weigh 2 pounds or less at depths of 30 to 50 feet. The fish are taking anchovies. Catfish also are being caught with anchovies.

Daniel Maes, Assistant Installation Manager, said that a cold front came through the area last week that caused the reservoir water temperatures to drop by 10 degrees. This temperature drop had a definite affect on largemouth bass fishing as no fish were creeled. A few rainbow trout that averaged 14 inches were taken with PowerBait and night crawlers.
The high temperatures have reached the low 80s while the lows were in the upper 30s.

Anglers continued to catch catfish but at a much slower rate. The fish were taken with an assortment of baits.
NDOW is scheduled to stock channel catfish at Floyd Lamb State Park, Lorenzi Park, and Sunset Park in Las Vegas, and Veterans Memorial Park in Boulder City today (9/09/04).
