similar to browns. october through november sometimes to december. if your talking in a lake they should stage on shelves or deep depressions towards the inlet of the lake then run as the spawn follows through up the creek or along gravel areas in the lake. brooks will hold in deep holes to stage prior to finding their spawn areas. i have never found a spawning bed of a brookie in a river so far so i cant speak from experience on this one. i believe they will run up river till they find water suitable similar to browns again. gravel beds with swift current but not rapids. generally 1 foot deep or so. hope this helps.

There is a small creek near the family property which is an inlet to a lake with a good brookie population. There I have enjoyed watching the brookies spawn over the years. (I won't tell where, I don't want some dufus to go and catch them all.) They are not fussy as to water depth, but seek out gravel as Xman explained. Interestingly, they will "do it" in shallows OR a deep hole as long as the gravel substrate is right. The color of these fish is truly spectacular. I also found them to be easy to catch at this time and are particularly vulnerable. (I haven't fished them in this creek during the spawn since I was a kid and didn't know better). The spawn time in this location is from about the end of the deer hunt to around the middle of November.

Here is a website to check out. http://fish.dnr.cornell.edu/nyfish/Salmonidae/brooktrout.htmlThis talks about Brookies in lakes and streams.

I believe they are already in the staging and spawning process. This is a posting I did early this week about brookies at White Pine Lake. In the pictures you will see the brookies are in spawn colors. In the high mountains like the Uintahs they spawn much earlier. They are already into their spawning colors in July. I believe they spawn in August, but could be wrong. I've seen cutthroats in some lakes spawning in tiny streams only a foot or two wide fed by springs in July as well.
