I want to get in at leas a couple more trips up there before it freezes over. Then I'll be up there almost every weekend.
Did you see, or hear, any duck/goose hunters up there?
I was up there on the opener last year and they were all over.
Just wondering if I should bring the shotgun along or not.

Nice report, sounds like you had a good time. Thats another body of water I have never fished but plan too. Where the fish deep or near the surface?

[cool]I hear ya, bro. I can't wait to ice fish Scofield, since it usually freezes up (safely) by Thanksgiving weekend. I might be out of town this thanksgiving, but I'm thinking of organizing a BFT icefishing party the weekend after T-Day weekend. Wanna help me organize it? That place rules for early season Troutskis through the ice!

tubedude makes some good points on ice fishing!! but the biggest thing i like about ice fishing is the fishing is just so much better (for trout that is) on hard water..
that and you get to use things for catching fish that you would not even think of useing any other time of the year.. like a 1/64 oz jig or a 2 foot long fishing pole.. how about 2 lbs line to catch 5 to 10 lbs fish..
if you like vertical jiging then you have to love ice fishing..
Hey tubedude i have not used a powerauger but i just started useing my snowmobile 2 years ago and it's saves alot of fishing time and makes it nice not to have to walk 3 miles acrossed A lake when the big W is hitting 30 mph.. and it gives you a bigger area to try to find fish..
i dide see and hear alot of duck huntters out there.. some of the guys on tubes and boats were getting upset with them including my buddy.. but they did not get near us and the fishing was so good that it did not matter to me one way or the other.. just glad i did not get hit by some raining shot like some of them out there did..

The other appeal of ice fishing is you now have access to all areas of the lake. Some have boats/tubes/toons to use during the summer and can get anywhere on the water. But when the water gets hard everyone with 2 feet has full access. Sometimes it helps to have a wheeler, snowmobile, or snow shoes. Lots of time the fishing is better in the winter as well.

[cool]I agree, TubeDude. I've only encountered rude snowmobilers at Strawberry at the marina a few years ago, but I NEVER ice fish the marina on weekends anymore. There's too many people there making too much noise etc., and the fishing is usually better at other locations, like Chicken Creek East, etc. I will occassionally ice fish the marina on weekdays, or early in the season before those fish receive too much pressure. I've never encountered rude snowmobilers at Scofield, Rockport or Jordanelle (YET), but those are the only places I've ice fished so far.

Sounds like a possibility if I get my waders soon. I could propbably stay shore bound though.

hey tubedude no offense takein.. and as fare as the useing other fishermen as a slalom markers thats not me dude most the places i go ice fishing there are no other fisherman!! that the great thing with the snowmobile is i can get away from all of that!! hehehe..
but i must say i have never seen the noise of a snowmobile have a effect on the fishing.. maybe it's where i have been fishing or the depth of the lake i'm fishing...
i have seen at yuba when i first started ice fishing and had no idea what a auger was and we used a bar to beat a hole in the ice.. made alot of noise.. but every time we started cutting a new hole or should i say beating on the ice we would start getting hit's.. so we come to use the banging of the bar to atract the perch..
so i think it can go ether way with the noise thing.. i have seen the fishing on fish lake slow down on the weekends when theres alot of pepole moveing around but not turn off alltogether..
