The Berry 11/11

Went up to Strawberry with my grandson and fishing partner this morning. Got on the water at about 8:30, windy and cold. We were glad to be in my friends C Dory. We kept the cab around 70 degres. Hot chocolate and soup. We'd just go out to catch fish and deploy. My grandson kept track of the fish he caught and ended up with 10. We all caught the about the same amount. When we got into them we were catching most of the time. Caught a few above the slot, most were 16 to 20 inches. Those cuts sure can give up the fight. Caught a couple of nice rainbows. We trolled 1 to 5 feet deep using large Rapallas. silver was the best. It was a good day on the water. At 1:00 it started to blizzard, we couldn't see a thing. GPS for a little while then it cleared and we got off the water. The fish are really hungry and in the shallow water (10 to 30 feet) near the top.

I got there a little later. Me and Scooter caught 4 each, not so stellar. We got there at about noon and fished till 4:00, during a real nice snow storm. Silver seemed to be the color for us as well. We found that out a little late, but it was a short fishing day for us. I hooked one on each of the 4 things I tried (white rapala, trolling a jig, jigging a jig, and silver rapala). He stuck with a silver plug with a propeller on it. It worked just as good as my junk. All 8 fish were 16 to 18 inch cutts. It was cold and lots of waves. Ice coulnd't have formed if it wanted to. The foam was piling up on the edges and it snowed twice, probably about 2 inches total. We left during the second storm. Fishing really shut down after the first storm cleared up. Anyway, that's my $0.02 on the Veteran's Day fishing trip. BTW, I brought a Veteran with me to validate my participation on the day. Take care.

I typically celebrate my day off (I work for the government) on Veteran's day with one of my Veteran buddies. I like to spend Holiday appropriate time on the holidays out fishing or something if I get the day off. I'm still trying to figure out an appropriate way to celebrate Columbus day. Maybe I can take some Columbian coffee fishing or explore some new lake or something on Columbus day. Who knows. I do think that Veteran's day is a good day to spend with a Veteran. It's pretty easy for me since my father and many of my friends are Veterans. Best Wishes! Fish On!!!
