Noise in Ice Shelter?

I was just wondering if a radio in an icehouse would scare away the fish? I was thinking about getting one of those waterproof shower radio's. I know that sound waves travel faster in water but is it worse than normal talking? Does anybody have experience with this?

I don't know at all how the noise would affect the fishing. However, I do know that any noise on the ice travels pretty far and your radio may have a negative effect on other anglers.
I love having music with me when I am ice fishing. Several years ago I was enjoying the day on the ice with my music, which I thought was turned way down. Several anglers who werent really that close visited me and informed me that they didnt appreciate the tunes.
Now, when I fish alone, I use a headset and my ipod.

I have friends that watch movies on their DVD player while ice fishing! I know that light through the hole can attract fish; I would think that noise is a deterrent. Also, what music were you playing? Maybe that put a damper on things. I personally like to listen to classical music with a headset on when I fish. It's relaxing! - and if fishing becomes work and not enjoyment then count me out!!!

If my screaming kids don't scare the fish away, I don't see how a radio will. My problem has been getting a decent station.

when my family and friends all go up to strawberry we take our snowmobiles and have a blast.. we usually take 3 or 4 of them and everyone takes turns riding them so there is tons of noise and we are in big groups with as many as 15 ice holes in a relativly small area... and we have had exelent days up there..

I FEEL IT IMPROVES THE FISHING. AT STARWBERRY I WAS WITH A BUDDY THE BITE WAS SLOW I TURNED ON THE TUNES AND FISH STARTED SHOWING ON THE FINDER. THEN THEY REALY PICKED UP. TRIED IT AGAIN THE NEXT WEEK AND HAD SAME OUTCOME. NOW I DONT GO WITHOUT IT. IF ITS SLOW I HAVE THE TUNES OR BALL GAME ON TO KILL BORDOM.

Thanks everyone. I will try it if I am totally alone on the ice. Otherwise I will use earphones. I was in Alaska fishing for Halibut early in the mornining enjoying the experience when my brother started pumping some heavy music so loud I could hear it plainly through his earphones. I threatened to throw him overboard. So I know what your saying.

Only been ice fishing a few times so I can not really comment on it however I can tell you that at the berry and numerous other lakes around when the fishing is slow from the boat all we need to do is turn on some tunes and fishing turns on.

Sound doesn't really travel well from air into water.

When my buddy is scuba diving, I can yell at him pretty loud, and even when he is barely under the surface, he can't hear me.
But tap real lightly on the side of the boat, and it gets his attention .

I don't think fish really hear the sounds from a radio as much as they feel the vibration from the speakers.

Many times I have been ice fishing without a bite. Fired up the snowmobile, and caught fish.
Same with running an ice auger. You get done drilling a hole and catch a fish right away, then nothing. Drill another hole and catch another fish.

Makes Sense, I will have to do an unscientific study this winter. Like some have said the more interesting thing might be how the other fishermen react to music on the ice.[]
