Slow at Bear Lake ... 11-26-04
#1
[black]Bait_Caster and I tried again for a decent day on the big blue pond. Wasn't going to happen. We launched at about 7:00 AM and fished around the marina for about an hour trying to get a white or anything that may have been there ... nada. So, we headed for the rock pile. Water temps were around 43 degrees and the weather was variable. We marked more than normal and caught fewer than normal. We only boated one small cut.[/black]

[black]But we did have some nice heavies on a couple of times but lost them everytime. BC set the hook on one real nice pole bender but snapped his 14 lb test leader ... much like last week's loss from broken leader. BC and I have now decided to go with 17 lb test leader ... up from 14 lb. There were three other boats out there with us and there results were pretty much the same or worse. It was nice to be fishing the lake while the mad-house Christmas shopping was going on down town.[/black]

Thanks for the report, I've been wanting to go up there the last few weeks but the weather has keep us away. After reading your report I guess we did not miss anything. Hopefully next weekend will be better and we can make it up there. How deep were you fishing and how long did you stay? WH2

[red] Hey Old_Coot , What is going on with the Big Bear? Almost looks like it doesn't want us up there anymore. I haven't really heard of any great reports as of yet, but I'm not giving up hope. [/red]

[black]We were from 31 feet to 60 feet. We stayed out till about 3:30 so we did give it fair try. Hopefully things will pick up a bit here in a couple of weeks. I have to admit though, we had our fair share of missed hookups . . . and some of them were big too. Maybe I need another refresher course out on the water with BLM. The weather hasn't been anything to keep anyone away. Even though I wouldn't say that it has been "real nice", I do have to say it has been no big deal.[/black]

The next time you head up to the Bear, try fishing a little deeper. After the spawn, in years past, we have done good in 70 to 80 foot of water. At least you had a few hook ups, thats always a good sign. WH2

The Mack fishing is deep now. The whites and cutts should pick up in a week or two then slow down until the cisco run starts.
