Fished Scofield Saturday morning and looks like we had about the same results as others that were up there. Caught about forty fish between the two of us but nothing over 15 inches. Lucked out that we did catch but a few under 12. Sure was a pretty day up there though. There was about 6 inches of ice everywhere we drilled and could see people all over the lake so they must have found the same. Used every thing from ice flies to jigs tipped with worms, wax worms, and meal worms. Nothing seemed to really knock them dead so we changed holes and bait often.

Fished Scofield Saturday afternoon on the east side as well. When we started at 2:30 there were about 50 fisherman in the area, when we left at 5:30, there were only 3 ice huts. Afternoon ice fishing is almost always less crowded. The bite was on the whole day, just went in waves. A group of fish would come in about every 15 minutes and our group of 3 would catch 2 or 3 fish. Then we'd sit and wait for another 10-15 minutes, then another wave of fish. Used the fish finder, If there was a fish being charted, he bit someone's line. We fished with red paddle bugs tipped with meal worms the majority of the time, missed about as many hits as we hooked. Switched to a smaller ice fly later on in the day and didn't miss as many hits. They didn't care if the jigs were moving or held still. We caught and released about 20-25 fish between the 3 of us. Most of the fish were rainbows at about 15 inches. Only caught 3 of the smaller 10" in variety. We usually will ice a few bows, cuts, and hybrids in the 17-20" range, but didn't see a fish over 16". Sounds consistent with a lot of other reports on the board for this weekend. A great beginning to the ice fishing season. I'll have about 6 scouts up there next weekend so consider yourself warned, luckily they are the 16-18 year old variety, and are usually much less obnoxious than the 12 year old variety.

If you were the one in the bright yellow pop tent with your son that was about 11 years old who made the comment about it being too cold to leave, that was me and my bros freezing our butts off. It got pretty cold just before we left. That is a sweet pop-up you've got. Were did you get a nice lightweight tent like that? Do you use a heater? If so, how many BTU's do you need to stay warm. I'm thinking about building the PVC tent that was posted today, but a pop-up would be really nice.

I found it on the web I would have to search for the site again, it cost around $250. I just searched for “popup work tents”. I use it for work when it is raining and I need to get a job done. It works great for ice fishing if it’s not windy. I’ve had to replace 2 zippers with in a year of use. I have an 8,000-14,000 BTU’s it’s more than enough of heat I leave it turned down most days unless it is extremely cold and windy. I’ve managed to fit 4 adult inside and have a blast fishing, however it fits 2 comfortably.
