Huntington 12-31-04
#1
Well I started the year by catching a Perch at Echo and 53 days of fishing and many fish later I ended it with a Tiger trout at Huntington. A non BFT friend and I braved the high winds and knee deep snow and spent 7 self abusive hours at the lake. We got there a little after 7 and started fishing down near the dam (just because it was easier to get to) in 8' of water. The fishing started out ok with us each catching around half a dozen fish by 11:30 but then it died except for when we drilled a hole out a few feet deeper and caught a few more fish around 2pm but by 3pm that hole died too. I moved around some to try to find fish but Wading through deep snow while towing an ice shack in the wind proved to be good for a cadiovascular workout but not for finding more fish. We tried many different lure/bait combos but the best was just a small ice fly with wax worms. There was a short period when I got fish on three drops in row with a pink Ratso but then nothing after that! It was frustrating to watch fish all day rush up to look at your lure but then either not bite or just bump it and move on. Even when they did bite it was very soft most of the time. The fish we did catch were fat and fought hard and it was fun catching the rare and colorful Tiger.

What was the length of the fish? Congrats on the tiger trout. I still need to catch my first on.

Well....when we first got there you could see some snowmobile tracks but by the time we left most all the tracks either by foot or machine were filled in by the drifting snow.

I didn't break out the tape but I'd say they were from 11 to 16 inches.
