I asked this on another site, and I would like to see what the differences of opinion between the two sites are...
What does everyone think of hybrids in Utah? Currently, Utah offers opportunities at catching Splake, Tiger Trout, Tiger Musky, and Wipers.
Personally, I like them. I don't see a difference between a hatchery created hybrid, and a hatchery created rainbow. In both cases, you take a bucket of eggs, pour in milt, and stir.
What do you all think of these fish?

I sure enjoy catching the hybrid fish that the DWR has planted in various places throughout the state. I think they provide a fun and viable population that is easy to manage.

I love the wipers, tiger muskies and splake. I have yet to catch a tiger trout. The wipers and splake sure taste good too!

Keep them coming -- we don't have the luxury of having an ocean close by to catch a huge variety of fish, so I think having hybrids is great.

The trout hybrids I could care less about, they are fun and different and that's great, but the tiger muskies and wipers are really nice. It gives Utah anglers the chance to catch something that is not native to this area without the fear of them taking over and crashing a fishery. Walleye, pike, and musky are more evolutionarily advanced than the lowly trout and pose complex competition and balance problems for managers. Most hybrids are sterile and the population numbers are controled solely by the DWR and anglers. Wildlife biologists have a much greater control with hybrids than they do with purebreads. My only question is where are the saugeyes for jordanelle.

I like the ideas of the hybreds, it gives a little different choice of fish in this "trout only" state.

As far as I'm concerned bring them on. I have never caught a tiger but as for the muskie, wiper and splake, Yee Haw. I think it is one of the best things the division could have done.
