What can I say?
The day started early as I met Polokid @ Dan's at 5:30 AM.
We gas'd up and made our way to the berry. Roads were lousy, alot of snow on em and the snow was coming down the whole way.
We arrived at Chicken Creek at 7:00 AM and we suited up and packed our gear onto our shanty/sleds. We started our way out to find 3 feet of fresh powder. We thought since we were young'ns we would make it out to the ice which was several hundred yards out from where we parked. 30 Minutes later we found that we weren't making much progress, we had only gone 100 yards from the parking lot. We talked while taking a break to catch our breath and both agreed that we wanted to fish sometime this morning so we went back to the truck and drove to the marina.
Polokid wades thru waste deep snow.

We arrived at the marina around 8:30 and found a nice spot off of a point in 23 feet deep water. We setup our shantys and put our hooks in the holes and we both immediatly had hits, but they were biting so light it was hard to get a hook set. I had several hits within the next 10 minutes then Polokid got settled and we both dropped out jigs in at the same time and we both immediately hooked up and landed two nice cuts. First catch being a double header, I though this was a start to a great day.
Snowy day @ The Berry. Our camp.

We had ups and downs all morning, we both lost loads of fish and missed alot of the light hits it was slow. Between us we iced 7 fish, I lost 6 either at the hole or shortly after a failed hook set.

The slush.... It was everywhere. In the morning the slush was non-existant. But around 10 AM it started showing up as others did with there 4 wheelers and snow-machines. they all made it to there spots ok with minor slush but by 12 Noon they were all getting stuck on the ice with their machines. By the time we left around 3:00 PM there was a good 5 inches or more of slush under the top snow layer. Even so we got out alive and with not much effort.
Upset we missed the morning bite that I was looking forward to, we seemed to hit the tail end of it then it slowed.
My memory is farely convenient so I hope Polokid will add his two cents.
