A new state record brown trout (see the photos!). In fact, it is now
the largest salmonid state record. This fish was caught this morning
Clark Canyon on a jig and minnow with 4 lb test line (possibly a new
line class world record).
Specifications:
Location:
Date: February 1, 2005
Length: 35.5 inches
Weight: 31 lb 11 oz
Angler:
Timmy Johansen
Butte , MT
Guide: Joel DeTonancour
What a monster, photo hardly does it justice!!!

Montana's Rainbow Trout state record is over 33lbs.....and it's a salmonid.
Nice fish....can anyone find any newspaper articel, or anything else that has any certified measurments and weights of this fish?

[/black][black]That was the message in the e-mail. I'm neither acknowledging it or refuting it. Just passing it along. I haven't seen any other articles, etc, confirming the claim. Still a nice fish...[/black]

Wow, what a hog and on 4lb test, I bet it took a while to get that fish on the ice. It sure would not fit through a 8 inch hole, he must have been using a 10 inch plus auger or double holeing it like you some times do. I know people that ice fish that lake in the winter and they have told me that the ice will get three feet thick by this time of the year depending on how cold the winter is. Thanks for sharing BLM. Thats the area in Montana I love to fish. I've fished Clark Canyon a few times but I usually fish the Beaver River just before it dumps into Clark Canyon. Its not that far away and there is a campground there or a motel 5 miles away in Dillon. It would make for a nice weekend outing this summer if anyones interested. I think its about a 5 hour drive doing the speed limit.

I drove by that lake nearly every summer growing up. I could never get my family to stop. Dang.
My Grandpa used to fish that area every summer with his buddies before the dam was built. He says he's never caught bigger fish anywhere else he's gone since.

[cool]Wow! That's freakin' amazing!!![shocked] Maybe if they keep the new regs the way they are at Strawberry we'll get fish like that someday. Supposedly somebody caught a 17 pound Rainbow from the Soldier Creek side this summer, so we're half way there![crazy]
