Is the fishing good in Conn?
#1
Hey guys,

I'm thinking about moving up to Conneticut later on this year. Is the fishing worth anything up there? I'm use to big game fishing for kings and Wahoo, what kind of saltwater species are readily availible in that area? How far do you need to go out to get them? Any info on the Conneticut fisheries would be greatly apprecitated. Thanks

We don't have all the great species your used to there Tarpon4me, some tuna in the fall that you may have to run out aways for. Most of our saltwater fish can be had in the LI sound and and FisherIsland sound. Winter flounder, fluke, stripers have made a great come back, blues and blacks are what most folks go for. Sorry it won't be as hot as you have it down south. www.dep.state.ct.us will give you all the info for CT. Let us know when you hit town.[Wink]

Hey, I appreciate the info gdn. Here's another question for you then. You said that most of the fish are caught in the sound. I don't have my 19' whaler anymore, I had to leave it in Guam. [Sad] However, I do have a 16 basstracker. Considering that i'm an experianced skipper, would that be enough boat to manuever the sound? I know the inlets and sounds here are pretty calm. And if it does get rough, the swells are relatively far intervals, so there's no worries. Help me out.

I would use it in the rivers near the sound on relative calm days, but a bass boat has no business out in the salt on a normal day.[:/] Sorry. But there are alot of stripers to be had in the rivers and will go to 30-40lbs. There are alot of harbers along the shore that you could use a bass boat, you just won't get into the really big fish your use to. Blues come in sept. and the stripers seem to stay year round now. Check us out on the Ct. board. Tomc is allways on the salt in warm weather and Poncho has started to chase the stripers last summer. You could allways trade it in for a 19' with a high freeboard, or take up bassin like I did.
