New Jordanelle perch parasite
#1
For those who fish the Nelle, have you seen the little white flecks within the muscle tissue of the flesh of perch. I am certain it is some sort of dormant tapeworm cyst but I have never seen this particular one. Although I know thorough cooking will definitely destroy it, it is still a bit offputting for me to keep many more of those fish. WARNING: Please try not to use perch meat from Jordanelle at other waters as bait. We don't want to spread this parasite all over before the "professionals" realize it even exists. Rockport perch are still clean and we definitely don't want the parasite there. These are distinct from the dormant white flecks found in bluegill livers which mature as bass tapeworms.

If they are cysts within the muscle tissue, they may be the yellow grubs we have at Pelican. Cut one open and look very closely. It will appear as a very small worm like beasty. If that's what they are, they are spread by waterfowl.

From my understanding, you'd be hard pressed to find any fish in any body of water that didn't have SOME kind of parasite.

Either these flecks are very recent development or the DWR doesn't consider them to be a problem because they declared them healthy for transplant less than 2 years ago.

[cool]This is very interesting. Have you sent an e-mail to the "experts" and asked them what is up with it? You can e-mail the biologists if you go to the dwr website which is:

Good luck.
