Strawberry Finally
#1
After a long winter of trying I finally made it up to Strawberry before the ice came off 4-12. With only finding a way to go late Monday night I had to go alone but was not going to be stopped. Reached the marina about 7:30 a.m. to find I had the whole lake to myself. With only a had auger I tried really hard to guess 30 ft. Nope 50 too deep. Marked fish but still moved closer to the ramp. 40 ft no fish and by now I was sick. Was going to have to fish 40 ft as I was not drilling any more holes for awhile. About 8 someone else arrived and came down pass me and headed out on the lake. Found he wasn't a BFT'er but had been there Thur, Sun and was back for more because of the fishing. He had a gas auger and offered let me fish with him so back to the 50 ft water I went. Turned out to be a great guy and a good day on the lake. We iced about 35 to 40 fish and I even hooked up with a 4 lb 22 inch cut. Couldn't believe my luck and that I had someone to help me take a picture and then send it back on its way. Would post pic but no digital camera here and it is a new roll of film so will be awhile before I can show anyone. Only other person on the lake showed up about 9:30 and we eventually invited him over and shared a great day on the lake. 50 Degrees by noon, no wind, no clouds lots of sunburn. A large chartreuse jig with a little of my worms and a half of his meal worm seemed to work the best. Caught fish from 35 to 50 ft all day just had to keep finding there depth at the time.

Sounds like you ended up having a great day. Always more fun to fish with others, and if that person has knowledge and a power auger, so much the better. What were the conditions of the ice?

Nice going Spidey! I've been up 4 times in the last 12 days, and hope to go again this Saturday. I know we're beginning to push it a little, but I hope for little surface slush and a decent fishing day.
Just got to make one last run ...
Congratulations on your big fish!

The ice is softening but still pretty thick. There was slush in the afternoon but never really got wet and walked off the ice with no problems. When I put the big one back somehow it caught the jig again in the side and went down the hole. Was too big to pull up the hole sideways so I tried to reach down the hole and un hook jig. Went in to my shoulder and was just short of reaching the bottom. Finally scraped the jig off on the ice.
