[#385000]After my first skunky trip to Lincoln Beach in February I decided to give it another shot last night. I've had my heart set on trying a few great looking catfish recipies and catching a few of the ugly buggers. To up my chances I even bought a second pole permit.[/#385000]

[#385000]With stink bait, rotten easter steak (for those who remember that post), crawlers, and minnows in hand I set out. [/#385000]

[#385000]Following Tubedude's advice on a great spots to fish with few snags I decided to fish off the dike just off the boat launch. The south dike was rather crowded so we set up on the north dike.[/#385000]

[#385000]It looked like the Crappie guys were doing great, the guys to the left of us had three or four cats on a stringer, the guy to our right nailed a white bass, and we had nothing.[/#385000]

[#385000]Not about to be skunked again we fished on into the dark. Just after dusk I had a fish playing with my line. No serious bites just a little tug and nibble action. The fish played for about 10 mintues before deciding he was really into what I had thrown out (stink bait, and easter steak). As I was baiting my second pole with a minnow and a crawler the fish struck. I set the hook and began to reel in. It felt like I caught a gob of moss. In fact I wasn't entirely sure I even had a fish.[/#385000]

[#385000]As I got the fish closer to shore I nabbed him in my net and took a peek at what I had caught. Head was too small to be a catfish, definately not a carp, too long to be a bass, and certainly not a crappie. Yup I managed to catch an 18" Walleye on stink bait. [/#385000]

[#385000]Not a very productive catfishing trip but I didn't get skunked and I managed to catch a decent walleye. [/#385000]

[#385000]He was a dude, and I don't mind telling y'all, those toothy buggers are a little tougher to fillet than the standard slime rockets I'm used to catching. [/#385000]

[#385000]Also in memory of the locked Yuba post a few weeks ago, I'm going to have to side with the trout guys that the walleye don't put up much of a battle. However I could care less what I'm catching, as long as I'm catching. I would be just as happy catching carp all day. [
