E-lake anyone been up there lately?
#1
Read this on the dwr siteanyone been up around that area?

ELECTRIC LAKE - The north end continues to open. The ice fishing season is over for the rest of the lake. A nightcrawler/marshmallow combination was the best bait. Cutthroats are in the 12- to 16-inch size range. Access by sled, snowshoe or ATV. Tributaries are closed to fishing

Two words, DEEP SNOW. The lake might have open water but the snow is way to deep to ride a fourwheeler to the lake. Walking would be a pain unless you went early while the snow was still hard. The DWR website isn't very accurate, they said that Gooseberry had open water several weeks ago but it is buried under several feet of snow and ice still. I snowmobile in that area. Unless you have snowmobiles or snowshoes I wouldn't go to electric lake until later in the year. Hope this helps[Smile]

Do you ski ? I'd ski in there with you if you were serious. I also have snowshoes and trained search dogs we could take. I have skied in to Gooseberry a few times and fished before - it was great, there was noone there except me and my hounds ! I also went to Electric lake and fished ice off once - had to trudge(post holed) through the snow that time - didn't have my skis and didn't think the snow would be so deep. Do you like to winter camp ? There's lots of snow up there.

well i have not had a chance of getting up there for awhile.. i just got back from Kentucy.. but i can say that if the north end is open it is becaus of the warmer water comeing in from the mine.. not from the wether getting warmer up there.. it has been cold down here in the valley the last 3 days i have been back.. so i'm sure that it has been very cold up there.. might want to wait tell the south end opens up and go acrost the dam.. the snow melts faster on them rocky hills on the south end.. give it another 3 or 4 week and it should be just right..
in the mean time there is scofield!! i talked to a buddy of mine the other day he said that he was up there the other day and cought some nice bow's and one big cutt.. fishing with egg sacks on the west side..
