Jig Reteieval Technique for Smallmouth
#1
I would like to better understand how successful fisherman retrieve a 1/8 ounce round head jig with a curlytail when fishing shorelines for smallmouth. HOP-POP-SLOW DRAG-CONSTANT BOTTOM CONTACT-NO BOTTOM CONTACT-SWIM

I think it all depends on what's catching fish.
Sometimes it doesn't matter other times it has to be precise.
I start with a slow retrive just off the bottom with a few little bumps to make it look like a minnow escaping a predator.

If that doesn't work, then I'll reel and pause, reel and pause. Often they will hit it at at the pause.

Like I said, whatever is catching fish. Try all different retrieves to produce results.

TD, I think I get it. Is it sort of like if one wants to catch a rabbit one pretends to be a carrot?

USE THEM ALL. JUST WHEN YOU GET A HIT OR PICK UP A FISH DUPLICATE WHAT YOU JUST DID. THAT IS KEY TO JIG FISHING FOR ALL FISH..

The answer is sideways, with no retrieve.

If you dont think that is an actual answer, or that it isnt a legitimate one, think again.

Thats about as true a statement as this old boys ever posted here.

You gotta draw the crowd and shiver in your boots if you wanna get bit.
