up close and personal at blue lake
#1

Natalie and I went to Blue Lake to do our open water scuba certification with the U of U. Got there Sat morning to do our first two dives. As we dove down on the first dive to the platforms in the water i was graciously met by two large mouths and a bunch of blue gill. To my surprise they didnt scurry away. Either they are so used to having divers out there, it doesnt bother them, or they were so curious on the how and why we were able to join them under water. There are some big bass in there, a bit skinny but some long boys. The blue gill on other hand are not missing many meals. There were some slabs down there. Lots and lots of minnows and small fish for feast.
After my second dive i noticed a guy with a can of that fake spray cheese spread, so i curiously asked when we surfaced, "what is that for" reply was "its fish food" That night I went to Smiths in Wendover and bought me a can for the next day. As I sprayed some strings of cheese out, I think I had every blue gill in that lake next to me. Pretty cool I think. Fun experience.
The dive master and I are planning on hitting the Gorge this summer for a dive trip. I will be anxious to get down there and check out where the macks really hang out!!! hehehe

That's great! I'd love to go diving out there! I've seen those cheese cans around the banks there... I wonder if I tried that stuff on a hook if they'd bite? Always looking for a new bait. Them bass didn't used to be skinny. Kinda strange. Maybe it's time for me to get back out there and thin out the population... lol!
