I met up with Mikecromaine to head down to Willard around 10:00 am with a 11:00 or so launch at the North marina in mind. When we arrived I radio'd out to see if HCD had launched and he was working the marina with nothing caught yet. I think he may have been in the water for an hour or so.
I made my way out to him to say my hello's then it was off to try and get some fish to bite. I started trolling with bottom bouncers and curly tail combo towards the North West side of the dike. About halfway there I had a hookup, I had a wiper on and it felt pretty good but it didn't want to hold on so it jumped off the hook and swam off. What a bummer! But it got my blood flowing and my adreneline going.
I continued to work an area where I was marking alot of fish and Mikecromaine finally made his way to me and we anchored up. We both tossed lures and even dragged some bait under a bobber for a while then rick made his way over to come see where we were marking fish. As he asked if we had any fish Mike's bobber with a crawler went under. Mike caught this nice smaller Wiper.

First fish of the day. We then went out down the dike heading west a bit and worked that area over there with no luck.
We decided after about 2 hours to head back to the marina to have a whack at the crappie. After a couple hours and modifying my presentation several times I finally got a bump and caught my first Crappie.

Just after I caught that fish the W came up fast and furious so we made our way to the boat ramp and beached our pontoons. We stuck around in hopes it would die back down so we could get back out there to do some fishing. It didn't let up so we decided to join the locals in bank fishing with jigs. One of the locals was catching Wipers on a regular basis. In a couple hours they had 6 or so Wipers between his wife and him and broke off several jigs. Mike and I started mimicing his presentation and Mike immediately started hooking up with wipers. Man they were hitting hard when that wind came up, they were surfacing all around us. I had one take the jig but I went to set the hook and pulled it out of his mouth.
Mike ended up catchign a couple Wipers before they decided to move on to feed elsewhere. Not a stellar day on the water but it was fun watching the locals and Mike get into them a bit.
