Having lived in Utah County all my life, I'm a bit familiar with Salem Pond, but I haven't driven past the pond in several months.
Can anyone tell me what the water quality is like in May? Is the water clear, and does it ever get muddy/merky? How deep is the pond in most places?
I know that motored boats are not allowed, but could I launch a little 14-foot aluminum non-motorized boat anywhere on the pond? Is there any kind of a boat ramp anywhere?

The place has improved with modifications for the handicapped people (pier) and you most certainly can launch a non-motorized boat. You can launch it around the bend from the park entrance to the northwest. There is a concrete boat ramp there.
The `water is fed by natural springs in the area and should be clean. May is the month DWR start planting trout... but don't know about that because of whirling disease issues. I would tend to think they will have to get trout from somewhere else because they don't want to disappoint the handicapped people during the handicap recognization month in June.

I don't know what it's like at Salem Pond right now, but at nearby Spring Lake (Payson), I drove by there on Saturday and it is choked with thick green algae in most places. You'd be hard pressed to find a place to cast where you wouldn't get your hook covered in yucky green moss. Hopefully it aint like that at Salem Pond.

Even if they don't plant any trout this year I have always been able to catch small channel cats and bullheads out of there.

I havent seen it lately but my boss lives right at the pond's edge, I will ask him today about the water's clarity, and get back to you.

[#505000]I skunked out there a few times in late March before it was planted and before it got warm enough for the kitties to bite. The water was murkier than I remember it ever being but it was significantly better than Utah Lake. DWR planted it before they realized they had whirling disease at their Springville Fishery. The fishing there is mostly slow.There are some largemouths in there too.Jakes do pretty good there those planters cant resist them!

Princefisher- Yesterday while I was at the gillnetting effort, I got a email paged to me from my boss who just got home from his vacation to Kansas. He reports that the water is very good, clear, and that it was stocked two weeks ago.

I'm anxious to take our little aluminum boat out there and see if the boys and I can't catch a largemouth or two.
We'll see. I've heard they're not as easy to catch there as at other waters.
