Fishing has finally started to pick back up. I can't believe how slow it has been these past couple of months. Usually we are seeing great success by around the 1rst of April all the way through the month of May but it has really been a slow start this year. Maybe it is the weather or whatever but all I know is that we have finally started to catch some of these trout and it really feels good. We haven't even been running any trips because it was so slow. Now I think all is well, at least for a couple of weeks, and we should see bigger Cutts moving in now for their annual spawn.
We haven't seen but a hand full of trout come into the traps yet so that is a sign that things are running a little slower than normal. We went out last week and had several bites, believe it or not we were in 100' of water. Yes it is hard to hook trout in that deep of water so for your needs I would use either some real stiff line or better yet some braided line with a 10 pounds 20' leader on the end of it. This will help you get the hook set that you will need for those 100' hook sets. We also trolled and picked up a few trout as well. The best depths for us have been 60' with riggers at about 40'. This can change daily and of course you never want to get totally away from the shallow trolling, especially this time of year when some of the Cutts are tight on the banks.
BEST LOCATIONS: The best spots have to be off of the East side at this time. I would also take a look at fishing off of the Marina area as well. We have seen a couple of monsters come off the Marina this past week. That is the first sign of decent fishing from shore.
Look for fishing to be very good through the middle of June then a slow taper. If the weather stays as cool as it has been it might even continue longer that that. We need more input as to how everyone else is doing out there so please drop us a line and let us know how things are going in your Bear Lake fishing reports. Best of luck and stay in touch!
