Lincoln beach monster 1 ocean 0
#1
Well after we left scofield we decided to give lincoln a try on the way home.We first tried for crappie at the boat ramp.No one seemed to be catching any so i threw out one of the big red shiners i caught . It took less than 5 minutes before somthing picked it up and ran with it.I picked up the rod and tried to set the hook but it got away. All that was left was the head.So i tried again this time i was crappie fishing and sam was watching the rod.A couple of minutes later bam !The rod went down and sam was fighting a fish .It fought pretty hard so i knew it wasnt small. It turned out to be her biggest walleye .That made her day.Crappie fishing wasnt there today but lisa did mange to hook up with one.If she wasnt bragging about it so much she might have just kept it .It fell of her hook and into the water thats what she gets for rubbing it in my face![Tongue] Well we wnet to the end of the dike and met up with possum a freind of mine he had already scored a 24inch walleye. The wind was blowing hard and the fishing was non existent. So i decided to try a new spot on the dike.I did get a bite at dusk but couldnt hookup with it .Then a couple of minutes later i was fixing sams rod she managed to create a huge tangle.[pirate] Ny hands were entangled with mono when one of my rods started peeling off line.I was in shock!I froze for a second because i have never seen a fish in utah take that much line and as fast as that ever![shocked] I couldnt grab the rod and i told lisa to grab it and she froze up too!I guess she was in shock also i know she has never seen fish peel off line like that in utah.I kinda thought i had a kingfish on the way it ran. Finally i grabbed the pole with my hands wrapped in fishing line and sams rod in one hand then i grabbed the rod and fought the monster for a bit. Then it got off![pirate] Its been a long time since i have lost a fish that made me so mad and frustrated. When i felt the weight of that fish it was extremly heavy!!! I dont think it was a carp because i was using those huge minoows i caught earlier. Didnt catch anything else and i wasnt in the fishing mood anymore. But it did get me exited about next weeks fishing trips i am going to taking.[sly]

Do you have a picture of the actual minnow? I am curious to what a huge minnow looks like.

Carp do feed on minnows quite often. But to keep your hopes up, your fish definitely wasn't a carp. [Smile]

I am also wondering what these big red minnows are and where and how you are catching them?

[cool]Sounds like quite an adventure, ocean! Too bad that monster got away. Sounds like a massive channel cat to me.

[#505000]I've got Wednesday afternoon on the radar if you're going to be there.

Also someone was asking about red sided minnows. You can get them by the bajillions if you have a casting net. I get mine at Scofield. I'm not sure where else they can be had.

You can get them at strawberry e-lake huntington and various other trout places i would think.

I agree with TD here regarding the "flavor" in the water thing. The most bites I've ever gotten while fishing for walleye had to be after the time I mistakenly stepped on my bag of minnows and had to resort to putting a couple of heads and various minnow body pieces on my hook. This "fish mash" had to of left a lot of "flavor" in the water, and I did seem to get a lot of hits.
