Good to hear that they are still biting.Save some bait for the rest of us ok![sly] Minnows are getting pricey lately so its cheaper to catch them yourself.

With your kids helping with the traps it is still cheeper to buy the minnows.

Thanks for the report jed, hopefully the bigger fish return within the next few years

i have one of those minnow traps, but i never seem to get anything in it. my uncle says to use dog food in it- which i tried with no results at strawberry last year. what do you guys put in the traps? are they the round ones? i have the round cylinder type. any suggestions on how to make the darn thing work?

[#505000]I wouldn't waste the time or money on traps. Go buy a 3' casting net for $15.00 and it will pay for itself in less than an hour.[/#505000] [Smile]

Ocean puts bread in his traps, it seems to work well, i caught one of his traps that had been lost in the water for a week and it still had minnows on it.

I personally love those little traps. I use them all the time. For red sided shinners, I use a compound of white bread mixed with trout bait(marshmellows, powerbait, zeekes, ect.) I'm taking 3 of them up to Scofield tomorrow. I'm sure out of those three traps I'll have 500 minnows, easy. One important thing, especially this time of the year, is to only get it out 15-20 feet. Also, it might help to try it by rocks, since thats where the shinners are spawning.
