Utah Lake catfish questions
#1
I am looking for advice on how to consistently catch channel cats at Utah Lake. I have been on a maddening chase for those critters for several years. I have watched this board and followed many of the steps others follow. I have mainly fished Lindon and AF because they are closest to my house. I have fished inside and outside the dikes. I have fished in close to the dikes, and farther out. I have fished with weight, without weight and with a bobber. I have fished during the day and at night. I have used worms, shrimp, processed bait, liver, minnows, and pieces of fish fillet. (The only consistent channel catfish bite that I ever had was when I desparately fished power bait on a size 14 treble hook - this hasn't worked since.) I catch plenty of bullhead, but few channels. So what are some of the keys? Is it location, location, location and I'm hitting the wrong spots? If so, as a shore angler what should I look for? Are there other key baits? (I took my bow to Utah Lake last week and shot a carp for the meat - I caught bullheads, but not channels). Is it time of day, moon phases, good clean living? Any advice will be appreciated.

[#505000]I've not figured the buggers out completely myself either. Yesterday I set up one of my poles with a monster hook and the biggest gob of bait I've ever had the pleasure to lob into any body of water. My thinking that the only fish who could gobble it would be a BIG cat or walleye. [/#505000]

[#505000]I'm not sure how they managed to unhinge their jaws, they must be part snake, but I was able to consistently hook bullhead after bullhead on my monster gob o' meat on a hook. Either way I got the Utah Lake skunk off!! [sly][/#505000]

[#505000]As far as going after channel cats goes my advice is this..... why waste the time... wouldn't you rather fish Strawberry for trout!! That would leave more channels for me!! [Tongue][/#505000]
