MADE A TRIP TO THE BERRY THURSDAY AFTERNOON.CUT OUT OF WORK EARLY AND ARRIVED AT THE LAKE AROUND 3:30. THE FIRST TWO HOURS WAS PRETTY SLOW BUT ONCE I FOUND THE FISH IT WAS AWESOME. I DIDNT GO MORE THAN 5 MINUTES WITHOUT A HIT AND IT CONTINUED THAT WAY UNTIL I LEFT AROUND 7. I HAD TWO FISH THAT HIT SO HARD AND PULLED SO FAST THAT MY 4LB TIPPET DIDNT HOLD UP. ALL FISH THAT WERE LANDED WERE IN THE SLOT BUT WHAT A GREAT TIME ON A FLY ROD.

SURE. I WAS ACROSS FROM THE STRAWBERRY MARINA. I WAS FISHING IN ABOUT 20FT OF WATER AND USING BLACK LEECHES AND CRYSTAL BUGGERS ON SINKING LINE. IT SEEMED THAT THE FISH WERE VERY CONGREGATED IN CERTAIN AREAS SO ROAM UNTIL YOU FIND THEM.

It is a good time of year to use leeches. I have a long Browning Fly Rod I rig up with a leech whenever I am heading back to the marina. More times than not I will hook up once or twice dragging that leech behind the boat on the way in.

I was at Strawberry Thursday night also and and you are right, the fish were all schooled up and you had to find them. Early in the evening I found a school in 8 feet of water and and the last 11/2 hours I fished in 24 to 28 feet in a huge school of fish and had the same success - a hit almost every 5 minutes. Caught one fish that was over the slot. I was over north of renegade ramp. Anyway, the usual spot where fish hold later in the year was a fish desert. No fish. They are in weird spots right now. My big fish belched a 8 inch fish of some kind while it was fighting. That was cool and then a seagull had it for dinner. However, the seagull didn't feel so hot after getting that down. Thanks for the report on what you were using. Most of my fish were on a black bugger. I should have tried a crystal, just didn't for some reason.
