Deer Creek on Friday?
#1
I have Friday off and am planning on fishing Deer Creek Friday to see if I can catch my first bass before the onsight seminar. Anyone have an opinion on how the fishing might be after this storm blows by Thursday? Also, I have never been fishing @ Deer Creek (originaly from Idaho) and would like someone to point me in the right direction ie. north, east, west or south sides of the resevoir. Currently my bass tackle includes various stick baits, tube jigs, Rapalas, spinner bait, plastic grubs and a bleeding shad rattle bait. Anything else I need to add like a crawfish imitation? I will be taking my float tube, but since I am a beginner I will only be going out if the weather is good otherwise its from the shore.

Also, if anyone wants to meet me there around 6:00 and show me the ropes I would not object.

If you take your tube go out by the island. Use your stickbaits white or smoke sparkle is probably your best color. Wacky rig is my favorite, with no weight whatsoever on the line. Caught a couple of NICE largemouth on the Northwest corner of the island at about this time last year, as well as a few small smallies. You might want to have some kind of craw imitation as well, since that's the main smallie forage in Deer Creek. If you go from shore, you'll probably want to go near the East end along Highway 89 before you get to the Midway turnoff. With the high water this year, there will be both smallies and largies as well as some perch most likely in the newly flooded vegetation out from the rocks at that end. Or fish anywhere along that shoreline back towards the West from there. Just be sure to get there EARLY or the power squadron will have you for lunch and ruin your fishing.

Thanks a lot for the advice Cat_Man!

Anyone know if an overcast sky will hinder my effort? Will the bass still be willing to bite with a little bit rain?
